Chihuahuas

"The Smallest of the Toy Breeds"

The Chihuahua enjoys immense popularity because of its size, beauty, intelligence, hardiness, and most of all its giant heart. When a chihuahua enters a family it becomes fiercely loyal to the members, and even more often one family member. Lively, bold, spunky, and quickwitted, Chihuahuas make active companions. But at the same time, they are cuddly and loving, sometimes to the point of being clinging. Don't get a Chihuahua if you don't want a permanent addition to your lap!

The Chihuahua's small size enables it to accompany its family in many places a larger dog wouldn't be able to. And of course a small dog eats less, messes less, sheds less, and takes up less room. And fits nicely on any size lap!

A Chihuahua is no mere lazy lap dog. It is a big dog in a little package. Since it bonds so closely with its family, it appoints itself as guardian. Woe to any intruders ankles who dares to trespass without the Chihuahua of the house's approval! As we have seen with our own Chihuahua, they often astound their owners by their fearlessness when faced with a confrontation. Of course this feistiness does not go without its drawbacks. No matter what the Chihuahua thinks, it is still a small dog and is vulnerable to serious injury if assaulted or abused. Luckily these little dogs also have good sense to go along with their spunk!

Personally I do not recommend a Chihuahua in a household with small or rambunctious children. Because of its small size it is extremely susceptible to broken bones and other injuries if dropped or squashed. I have witnessed myself children's tendency to want to chase and catch a small dog such as a Chihuahua...not a pretty sight when the poor little dog gets hurt!

Here are some samples of some very well bred, not to mention adorable Chihuahuas!
