What Makes it Better?
What Doesn't?
I can only answer for myself.
What works for me doesn't always work for my friends, and what works for
them doesn't always work for me, so I will just tell you my experience.
-
Aspirin, Tylenol: If these work
for you, you have wimpy cramps.
-
Ibuprofin: My lifesaver. Makes the
difference between being able to move and being confined to bed.
The trick, though, is to start taking it BEFORE the pain starts.
It works much much better then.
-
Heat: Yeah! Feels great to have a heating
pad on my stomach. I wish I could take it to work with me. (I once worked
in an office where one of the women used her heating pad every month, and
I have great respect for her being able to do that, but I would be way
too embarassed.) Warm bath is great too, and sometimes it is good to have
a heating pad in front and a hot water bottle on my back.
-
Exercise: If I exercise regularly through
the month, then it seems like my cramps are not as bad. Exercise
WHILE I am cramping is simply not an option.
-
Avoiding salt, caffeine, chocolate:
I've never been a good enough person to try avoiding those things.
-
Acupuncture: I have a friend who swears
by it but I have not tried it yet.
-
BC Pills: When I was on the pill, my
cramps were way less painful.
-
Having a Baby: Worked for my mom, so
she tells me. I haven't tried this one and am not likely to do so
soon.
-
Sex: Sometimes, when I am in the mood,
when the cramps are not too bad, an orgasm will make them pretty much go
away for an hour or so. But when they come back they are often worse
than before. And when they are really bad, it is pretty hard to manage
an orgasm, even with help.
What works for you? What cramp
cures would you like to share?
