References In Literature and
Popular Culture to Cramps (and to Menstruation)
I have some interest in documenting
references to menstruation in various places. I would be interested
to hear of any references in
-
Movies (like the pile of Tampax boxes
in the background of one of the scenes in the movie "MASH", or the scene
in "They Shoot Horses, Don't They" in which one of the contestants has
her period.)
-
Books (literature, romances, sci-fi,
mureder mystery, I'm not fussy)
-
TV (not ads, but things like the episode
of "All in the Family" in which Gloria mentions her period, probably the
first such reference in American TV. Or various episodes of "Designing
Women" in which characters complained of PMS or cramps. If you have
video tape or quicktime or mpeg versions of any clips of such things, I
might be interested in getting copies if that were possible.)
-
Real Life (Uta Pippig's Boston Marathon
run, athletes who have publicly mentioned or blamed their periods, other
public figures who have "gone public" about menses or cramps or whatever.)
I will begin to populate this page
with the references that I already have, but if anything comes to your
mind, please
add it to my Guestbook ,or
email me about it and I will add your contribution as well.
