Your role in the Hot Seat is to be on stand-by. It is your job to be prepared to deliver a speech. An unfilled speaking role is difficult to replace at the last minute, and it's a shame to miss an opportunity for someone to get closer to CTM. Being prepared for the Hot Seat will ensure the Toastmaster will have someone to call on for a speech. It also prevents wasted opportunities towards achieving Competent Toastmaster level.
