Church Photo

This is The Word Church. It was built in the eighteen hundreds. In December 1984, God led me and four other people to establish The Word Church. He told us to begin a church saying "My house shall be a House of Prayer." Matt. 21:13. We didn't have the money or the "know how" to begin a church ministry, but we had faith. God led us to rent the empty church building on the corner of William Street and Park Avenue in downtown Goldsboro, North Carolina. This is a strategic location. Some of Goldsboro's elite citizens live east of our church on Park Avenue. Beginning within two or three blocks west of our location is an area where the homeless gather, and William Street is one of the main corridors in our town. Therefore, citizens of every race and stature eventually pass our way.

We now had a building in which to establish God's church, a place of contact, our established location, but it was a building without electricity, bathroom facilities, heat or water. The church building was also in need of renovation. We didn't have any monies to establish the ministry. We just stepped out in faith, and over time we had electricity, heat, air conditioning, water and bathroom facilities. We painted and had new carpet installed, and we moved forward with the Lord.

Worship Service

Worship services are a little different at our church. We believe in praising and worshiping God in almost any way. We sing, dance, raise our hands, and just generally bury all pride when we come into the presence of God. As the Bible says, if we don't the very rocks will cry out. Ain't no rock going to out praise us!

Alter Call

We almost always have an altar call at the end of the services. We believe in the laying on of hands by believers. We have an altar team that consists of members of the church that have sold out their lives to the service of Christ. The power of the Holy Ghost can be felt when we gather to agree for the needs of others.

TV Program

We have a half hour television program on our local Christian TV station called Power In Praise. It airs every Sunday afternoon at 5pm eastern time on channel 56 or cable channel 21.

TV Program 2

Since our program is aired live sometimes it is hard to find people willing to participate. As you see in this picture from left to right we have the willing bunch for the day: Myself (host), Anne Farmer, and Robert Willis. The topic for this program was James chapter 1.
