Friend

You stand alone in the treacherous landscape of my world.
Not a tower of strength:
You are not so big,
Not as the skyscrapers of far off cities
In different worlds from mine
That I see,
Yet cannot touch.
But you are strong:
A cottage of strength,
Vast in my eyes.
Shelter me from the coming tempests,
Rain that batters my defences
Like the angry tears of the raging wind.
Let me believe
That when I must venture out into the hostile world
I can return to you.
You will be here.
Others found before you
Crumbled beneath my feet -
Those that seemed oblivious to the passing of time,
Yet were not there when I needed them.
I need you.
As rivers need water,
Wind needs air;
You help me through each day,
Each journey,
Over each obstacle,
Of which there are many
Yet to come.
Perhaps one day you will not stand alone.
But even then,
Please stay.
I need you now,
And will
Forever.
