Simply Imagination

I was watching the stars late one night. I had just returned home from an unsuccessful track meet and I didn't feel tired. I laid down on the hood of my dad's car just staring upward at the open sky. I recognized some star patterns out of an earlier childhood interest. I was also thinking about what the latest astronauts were doing up in space if there were any. Maybe they were bouncing on the moon, fixing a broken satellite, or just flying around in their spare time. I tried counting all of the imaginative shooting stars I could find. I may have even seen one, but I wasn't paying attention.
Outlining the vast Milky Way, which ran from one horizon to the other, was my next task. Maybe if I tried finding a planet... Jupiter is supposed to be up this time of the night, but if it was I couldn't point it out. After finding out Venus was not in sight, my last hope was Mars, the only thing I could find easily because of its red tinge. I searched by squinting my eyes. Mars showed up like a blurry smear in the sky that way, which made it easier to locate.
I found it! It was almost too low on the horizon to see beyond the tall trees in front of my house. I watched for a long stationary moment, studying, until a car drove past my house. Distracted, I looked over--my night vision was destroyed. I closed my eyes. I always appreciate the quiet and peace of night, so when I can find it, I use it. I moved to the grass by memory, my eyes still closed. I laid down. I could picture the stars I had seen before and where I had seen them.
the moon. Its eerie glow appeared in my head, larger with each moment. Closer there was Mars, now it grew, faster.

Approaching Uranus, almost at a blur, faster! The Sun was almost invisible amongst the more distance stars. Slowly, it all faded dimly into nothing. Darkness engulfed me for a moment.
A waterfall appeared behind me, a meadow in front, the grass below me moist, and sparkling with droplets in the sunshine.
I opened my eyes. Rain had fallen while I dreamed. I smiled. Though I was soaked, I felt at ease, more so than ever before. I may never feel as good as I did when I woke up that night. I had been to the most relaxing place on Earth--My own subconscious. Whenever it rains, I may walk out into it just to remember how I felt that day...
