Here I am in the early 70's on the wall at the Foggy Bottom Grocery in Washington, D.C.  This was nearly on campus at George Washington University where I worked.  I would read my poetry from this perch and draw a modest crowd.  I was then the Poet Laureate of Foggy Bottom section of the city.  Cool Dashiki.  Here is a poem of that period.

Pennsylvania Avenue

A thin ribbon like a tapeworm
In the intestines of a putrid
Black Cat.  While
Above a star shines brilliant
It writes your name
I know your name
I carry it with me
In the palm of my hand
