On the western side of the city you can park your car and hike along portion of the coastline known as ¨Lands End.¨

It is a fairly challenging hike along the coastline.  The steep hillside drops quickly into the Pacific.  Mountain Goat training is very helpful.

After about 20 minutes of hiking, you round the corner and there is Golden Gate, the Golden Gate Bridge, and San Francisco Bay off in the distance.  It is surprisingly remote despite being only minutes from the population density of the city.

I sat on a rock and watched the scene for a while.  The sun finally came out, and I snapped this picture.
