Predatory animals inspire a sense of awe and respect (and fear) among humans - especially the big ones. Sharks are definitely not an exception of the rule. All sharks are carnivorous (eating other animals), predatory animals, and have adapted to feeding on a wide range of prey. In general, all sharks are piscivorous (eat fish) and oppurtunistic (they eat anything edible that they may come across), excepting the basking and whale shark (which feed on various microscopic animals). However, many sharks feed on a much wider range of food, and some have become adapted to deal with such food. For example, the Port Jackson shark has specialized flattened teeth which aid in crushing crustaceans and mollusks, two types of food which this shark likes (other sharks which feed on such creatures have similar teeth too). The white shark is another example of specialized (yet still oppurtunistic) features for predation...
The white shark is an apex predator, and feeds on a number of creatures. It is also notorious for having attacked (and in some cases killed) quite a few humans over time. This reputation, and its unforgettable visage, have made it the world's most famous shark. Beyond the sensational attacks, however, is a spectacular creature which deserves a reputation not as a mindless man-eater but as a true predatory masterpiece.
