nept2.jpg (38137 bytes) At one end of the Piazza Navona in Rome is the 1878 Fontana del Nettuno (Neptune Fountain)

Again, like the Fontana di Trevi, it is tucked away among winding streets. The Piazza Navona is a bustling place filled with tourists, residents, young, old, those lingering and those rushing through.

Directly across from the figure is one of Rome's finest ice cream parlors, Tre Scalini. The Italians are ice cream fanatics (they call it Gelato, an ice cream parlor is a Gelateria). Made with only eggs, milk, cream and sugar it is much less sweet than American ice cream. The rich, dark chocolate, known as tartufo, is the best. Trust me, I sampled a few.
