Innocent Heart

by Karen Kiefer

We were all once babies
That giggled, played, and chewed.
I was once a baby
So that means so were you.
What turns a person evil,
When we were all once the same?
What makes a person vicious
Is it just the devil to blame?
If we all start equally noble,
What takes away your pride?
What fogs the understanding
Of the terms you must abide?
What turns a brain so fierce?
What turns a warm heart cold?
What takes your sense of caring?
What strips you of the bold?
What can turn one fiendish,
When we were all once innocent and pure?
What attracts your evil world?
Is it some hidden, dark allure?
Look in the eyes of a child
Who has not yet seen the world.
Can you see it in his eyes,
If he'll turn against the Lord?
We were all once babies
And all we knew was mirth.
How could we have known
How evil was the earth?

Jonathon Taylor Thomas (and why we hate him)

Note: I wrote this in May of 1997. This poem applies to Leonardo DiCaprio as well.

We were all once undiscovered
Our lack of talent was unknown
Yet someone found JTT
And they won't leave him alone.
What swells up a person's head,
When we were all once the same?
What drives a person to be so annoying,
And drives us all insane?
What made him so damn popular,
Was it just a cute face?
In Tiger Beat, Teen, and YM,
His visage is all over the place.
What made Home Improvement so boring?
What made The Lion King so bad?
What makes the kid's face so alluring?
What's so great about this poor lad?
What can strip one of talent,
And still doesn't mean a thing?
What attracts young girls to his appearances,
What about him makes their hearts sing?
Look into the eyes of a young girl
Who has yet to see JTT.
She won't give a damn about the boy,
She won't give a damn (just like me!)
