The Legend Of The Cherokee Rose
No better symbol exists of the pain and suffering of the "Trail Where They Cried". Then the Cherokee Rose. When gold was found in Georgia in 1838,the government forgot it's treaties and drove the Cherokee to Oklahoma. The mother's of the Cherokee were grieving and crying so much, they where unable to help their children servive the journey. The mother's grieved so so much that the chiefs prayed for a sign to lift the mother's spirits. The gods looked down from the heavens, and decided to commemorate the brave Cherokees.

The next day a beautiful rose began to grow where each of the mother's tears fell. The rose is white for their tears;a gold center for the gold that was taken from Cherokee lands, and seven leaves on each stem for the seven Cherokee clans. At the end of the journey the tears of the mother's turned to stone in the shape of the Cherokee Rose. The Cherokee Rose to this day still grows along the route of the Trail Of Tears. The Cherokee Rose is now the offical state flower of Georgia. The Cherokee's would sing Amazing Grace as they walked the Trail of Tears,it would help sustain our people. We sometimes call it our "Natioal Anthem."It is fare the favorite hymn among our people.
