Welcome to my Martin, Lauber, Leff, and Schulze Family page!
1. Mary Anna Lauber/Leff m.1st John Martin. Mary (8/10/1856-6/17/1912)
According to the Crawford Co OH cemetary books, Mary's parents were
Lawrence and Barbara Baurklaub Lauber. My great aunt says this is not
true. They called Mary's mother "Leffie" and she lived over by the
Crawford Co fairgrounds. I have come to believe that Mary's parents
are Floril/Floriel/Florion Leff/Low and his wife Anna or Bernglow.
In 1870, there was a Mary Leff aged 13, b. Baden, living with parents
Floril and Anna, ages 36 and 33 respectively, both b. Baden. Floril's
real estate was worth 400, and personal was worth 200. He was a farm
laborer and lived in Whetstone Twp, Crawford CO OH. There are no Leffs
in 1860 in Crawford, and no Leffs in PA or OH in 1850, although there is a
John Leffie and Daniel Leffe. There's also no Leffs in Ohio in 1880,
and no Laubers in Crawford in 1880, and no Crawford Laubers in 1870
either. I was beginning to think that they either moved on or passed
away, when I found Mary Martin and her two young daughters in the
Crawford Co Ohio 1880 census in Whetstone Twp. boarding with a couple whose
name it was hard to make out. I believe it says Florion Low and wife
Bernglow, ages 46 and 43 respectively. This matches up with Floril
and Anna from the 1870 census, if you add on 10 years to make it 1870.
Also, the first name is very similar, and also the neighbors are the same
(Coulters, Gabriels, and Boyers). It also just makes plain sense,
that after her husband died, Mary would move back in with her parents.
In 1880 Mary was 24, daughter Anna was 2, and Emmaline was 8/12, having
been born in November. Florion was a farmer and had been unemployed
for the past 12 months. Florian and his wife and their parents were all
born Bohemia (although according to the 1870 census, they were born
in Baden). Anna and Emma were born in Ohio, and Mary was born in Bohemia,
although after the census taker wrote it in, someone else went over it
and wrote in that she was born in Ohio. Hmm!!
2. Anna Margaret m. Joseph Martin Bruhen, who came to the United
States alone at the age of sixteen from Switzerland. When he
first arrived, he settled in Zoar in Tuscarawas Co OH.
3. Josephine Mrgt. (8/23/1902-12/21/1996), bur Holy Trinity
Catholic Cem, Bucyrus, Crawford CO Ohio. She married 11/23/1922
Victor Lloyd Shumaker, though they were not married Cahtolic.
On Vic's deathbed, he agreed to renew their wedding vows
so that after his death, his wife would be able to rejoin
church and both could be buried together in the cemetary.
4. Daughter; information private.
4. Robert Elsworth/Elwood (birth cert. says Elsworth,
and death cert says the latter.) He was born on July
15, 1930 in Bucyrus and died four days later. They lived
at 1122 E Mansfield St in Bucyrus (actually Josephine
lived there until her death).
4. Edwin Richard (at birth, his name was Richard Edwin,
but he reversed it at a later date.) He was born
12/10/1931, m/o 8/12/1951, and died 8/11/1994. Other
information private.
2. Emma (b. 11/11/1879) married her step-brother, William J. Schulze.
3. Marie, their only child, lived only from 6/23/1895 to 11/25/
1912 and is bur. in Holy Trinity, Bucyrus.
After John's death (he died while Emma was in the womb, or he died in
January 1880) by being kicked by a horse (?), Mary made
ends meet by selling fruits and vegetables at a stand. She married
a second time, this time to Oscar T. Schulze, who also had been married
previously. Oscar was born 4/4/1847 and d. 10/7/1899. His first wife's
name was Pauline Hertzer. Both Oscar and Mary are bur. in Holy Trinity.
2. Oscar Thomas (1/19/1888-2/21/1906) n/m, bur HTBU
2. Robert Edward (11/16/1896-11/12/1967) n/m, bur HTBU
