1. Jost Shoemaker b. ca. 1707 in Germany, came to USA on the ship St.
Andrew and arrived 1738.  (St. Andrew set sail on 26 Sept 1737 and 27 
Oct 1738.) Mannes Sassemanhause of Elsoff, Germany signed the ship-
list immediatley before a Jost Schuhmacher did.  Assuming people from 
the same towns traveled together, Jost was b. 1716 in Elsoff Germany
(according to the church records of Elsoff.) Jost, a farmer, m. Anna 
Eliz. He took out  a warrant to have land surveyed in 1747 in Bern Twp.,
then Lancaster, now Berks Co, PA.  In 1754 and '55 he got more land, 
giving him a total of 147 acres which became known as "Shoemaker's 
folly."  In 1781 in Berks Co PA, Jost Shomaker is listed as having 100 
acres, no slaves, 2 horses, 4 cattle, and his tax was 7.14.0 (pound.
shilling.pence).  In 1767 Berks Co., Jost Shoemaker has no land, horses,
cattle, or sheep, and a tax of 1.  But then it says that Jost Shoemaker has
50 acres, one horse, one horse, no sheep, and a tax of 3.  In 1768 Berks
Co., Jost Shoemaker has 130 acres, 2 horses, 2 cattle, 2 sheep, and tax
of 7.  In 1779, Yost Shoemaker had 400 acres, no slaves, 4 horses,  3
cattle, and a tax of 3, 860.  (? maybe 3 pounds and 860 shillings?)  In 1780
Yost Shoemaker had 200 acres, no slaves, 2 horses, 6 cattle, and a tax 
of 54.0.0.  (Berks Co Tax lists from Penn Archives Third Series
Vol. XVIII).  From Shoemaker Pioneers, it states that a descendant
of Jost is a relative of Johann Schumacher who came to America in 1742.
Could this be Jost's father? 
2. Christian b. Sept 29, 1753 in Tulpehocken Twp, Berks Co, PA. He was christened on Feb 2, 1754 in Strausstown, Berks Co., PA. In 1779 there was a singleman, Christian Shoemaker whose tax was 15 shillings. 2. Maria m. John Addams 2. Henry m. Anna Maria, d/o Henry Schaeffer, at Trinity Tulpehocken Reformed Church on Sep 23, 180; no children. He d. in Upper Bern Twp ca. Jan 1842 and left his estate to his brother Jacob's sons, Adam and John. 2. Elizabeth m. George Yoh. She d. soon after her father's death. 2. Catherine m. Daniel Althouse. She d. before 1787. 2. Jacob, the eldest son, a blacksmith, d. 1831 Upper Bern Twp, Berks Co, PA. He settled his father's estate in 1793. In 1826 he is spoken of as a convict b/c he was a debtor; the sherrif disposed of his land. Ja- cob was listed as owning a farm and livestock in Bern Twp as early as 1767. The 1800 census lists him as over 45 yrs. In 1767, a Jacob Shoe- maker was listed in the Berks Co Tax lists. He had 30 acres, no horses, sheep, or cattle. His tax was 3. In 1779 Jacob's tax was 15 shillings. In 1780, Jacob, a single freeman, had a tax of 15.0.0. In 1784 he had 200 acres, 2 horses, 2 cattle, 3 sheep, and 4 people living with him. In 1785 his tax was 2.15.0. 3. Daniel d. bef. his father. In Jacob's administration papers, four of the below children were minors: 4. Catherine 4. Elizabeth 4. Israel 4. Samuel 4. Mary 4. Charles 3. John 3. Christina m. John Stall 3. Jacob m. (Maria) Eliz Natzinger on Dec 7, 1811 at Trinity Tulpe- hocken Reformed Church, Jackson Twp, Lebanon Co PA. In 1850, Jacob, 63 yrs, and Eliz 56 yrs, lived in Tulpehocken Twp Berks Co PA. Jacob is listed 1777-78 in the Revolutionary Rolls of Capt Shardle/Shradle Third's Company of the Third Battalion of Berks Co Militia. 4. Sarah b. Jan 3, 1815, baptised at St. Michael's Church, Tilden Twp, Berks Co 4. Elias and Eliz, twins, b. 1/22/1820, baptised St. Michael's Church. This Eliz might be the one living with her Jacob and Eliz in 1850. The two younger ones living with Jacob and Eliz might be Elizabeth's children. 4. Esther b. Jan 11, 1823, baptised in St. Michael's Church, Tilden Twp Berks Co 4. Jacob m. Lavina Wolf, d/o Christian Wolf, in Trinity Tulpehocken Reformed Church in Jackson Twp Lebanon Co PA. They lived in Jackson Twp Labanon Co in 1866. 4. Sarah m. Jonathon Anspach Sep 13, 1840 in TTR church 4. Mary m. Frederick Brown Aug 9, 1851 in TTR church 4. Samuel, a loborer, m. Elizabeth Behny May 5, 1849 in TTR church. In 1860, Samuel and Eliz were 42. Samuel might not be Jacob's son; he could be a son of Daniel who d. 1829. 5. Adam 10 yrs in 1850 5. Maria 8 yrs in 1850 5. Mary Ann 5 yrs in 1850 4. John m. Susanna Naftzinger at TTR church in Mar 1819. John d. before 1878 and left a widow, Susanna, and one child. 5. Lydia m. John Winter 4. Adam (May 2, 1797-Oct 11, 1866) bur. St. Michael's Cemetary, west of Hamburg PA. Also bur there is his wife, Sarah Naftzinger (Mar 10, 1802-Feb 14, 1870) Their family lived on part of the old family farm, which was in Upper Bern Twp, on the Penn Twp line. The 1850 census lists Adam, a farmer age 53, and Sarah age 42, in Upper Bern Twp 4. Benjamin (Nov 4, 1829-Jan 23, 1878) lived at the old family farm all his life and is bur St. Michael's Church in Tilden Twp. Benj b. Berne Twp Berks Co 4. Elias (Oct 26, 1826-Jan 14, 1889) lived at the old family farm all his life and is bur St. Michael's Church, Tilden Twp 4. Lydia, age 22 in 1850, lived at home with her parents 4. Catherine, age 13 in 1850. 2. Johannes/John b. 1764 in Strausstown, Berks Co PA 2. William m. Catherine Long, sister of the wife of William's brother, John.
