Did They Exist?

Picture this: It is the dark ages, where the Knights and Kings reign supreme among the men, but can only watch as the ancient yet unkown race of dragons take to the skys to begin their version of the Exodus. as they leave, mankind watches in awe. On their faces, a great look of excitement, and on the Dragons' minds, the idea of a world of their own. Through the use of their powerful magic, knowledge, and the ability to fly, the Dragons have left earth. Their destination known only to them, and not soon to be revealed to others, they may never return. After the last of them have disappeared into the sky, all humans' memories are stripped of the dragon leaving. All that can be recalled is that of the mortal earthling dragon; nothing less, nothing more.

Here's what happened...

In the beginning, there was nothing more than a semi-dragon, and an immortal. This semi-dragon, who we'll call Osylon, needed to create others like him to take his place in this vast realm of time & space. He, as the only and most powerful mortal being, was at the end of his term of life, and could not become immortal without certain items. To get these items, he was forced to go through many difficult tasks that were placed before him by the immortals. Should he succeed, he would recieve the ultimate gift: Immortality. He went through many pains and sufferings, but still, he could not find a single item that he needed. He met the only immortal of the time, only to seek her advice. Since she has been the only to pass these tests. What Osylon did not realize, is that his goal had never changed a bit. It was still to create others like him to take his place.

He took the magic that he possessed, and intertwined it with a small clump of dirt that he found to be worthy. After days and even weeks of this, he found that the dirt could be molded into any certain form. He sculpted it to the basic shape of himself, but he added armor and scales to cover the weakest spots. He then brought this item to the immortal, who then added a special something to the concoction that was used to create it. The sculpture was left alone in a magical incubation chamber, where it could accumulate the power it needed for life to occur.

This lasted for days upon weeks upon years, until the greatest magic ever met was felt to be present to Osylon. He warned the immortal, and as they went to retieve the artifact, they found a tiny bronze dragon attempting to fly around the area. They were very suprised to find that the conditions occured so quickly. They took the young hatchling into their care, and were sure to nurture it, teach it, and they commenced their works on the creation of it's siblings. After many decades of tiring work with magic and training, Osylon and the immortal were very tired, and could do nothing more to assist this new race they had created.

Osylon then laid his head to rest, and when he awoke, he found himself to be much larger, yet lighter than before. He also found his magic to be much more potent. As he gazed upon his own body, he appeared to have larger, sturdier scales, and thicker sails on his wings. As he rose to his haunches, he was greeted by the immortal. She explained everything that happened, and introduced herself as she could only to another worthy soul. He looked ahead and saw the world that she had made, only it was populated by a great race of their mutual creation. They named these creatures "Dragons" after the immortal who's name was Draconia Highstone.

The dragons began to prosper with no problem at all, and needed a challenge if only to live. So, Draconia and Osylon created many creatures of neutral alignment, and some of evil. Next, they created a species of humanic creatures with half the intelligence of the dragons. These "humans" were rather small for the world they inhabited, and needed protection from the creatures of the overworld. The dragons were the chosen "bodygaurds" of these humans, and therefore had a great challenge laid before them by that of the two immortals.
