All About Orora

I'm not much of a writer. (Anyone who's read that pretentious poetry I wrote in college will attest to that.) Instead, I thought I might just fill this page with quotes that I like...thoughts that strike me...little blurbs and such. To help you get an idea of who I am. So, here goes...

Quotes I like for one reason or another

  • "Wouldn't this be a great world if insecurity and desperation made us more attractive? If needy were a turn-on?"
    ~~Albert Brooks, Broadcast News

  • "Ask nothing, expect nothing, and accept everything—and you won't be disappointed."
    ~~Anthony Hopkins

  • "We are well advised to keep on nodding terms with the people we used to be, whether we find them attractive company or not. Otherwise they turn up unannounced and surprise us, come hammering on the mind's door at 4 a.m."
    ~~Joan Didion

  • "I spent the first twenty years of my life waiting for two men I was reasonably certain would never come back - my daddy and Jesus Christ. I don't wait for them anymore. My Dad, anyway. And at least with Jesus I didn't spend all that time thinking he was gone because of something I did."
~~Brett Butler, Knee Deep in Paradise

  • Once again, as when she was a small child, she felt she knew nothing. That if the chair on which she sat suddenly became a canoe that floated out the window on the river of Zede's tears, she would not be surprised."
~~Alice Walker, The Temple of my Familiar

  • "If you're at the beginning of something and everything's great, then by all means be happy, but do not take things for granted. If you're experiencing the meanness or betrayal of the world, then by all means be sad, but know that you are not defeated. If you are in the midst of your resurrection and rebirth, then do not forget to praise and give thanks."
    ~~Marianne Williamson, Illuminata

  • "Not everything that counts can be counted. Not everything that can be counted counts."
    ~~Albert Einstein

  • "There is nothing 'realistic' about reality."
    ~~Eric Overmeyer

  • "He took me to dinner, then we had sex. It was good food."
    ~~Jody Stivers

  • "Given that true intellectual and emotional compatibility are at the very least difficult, if not impossible to come by, we could always opt for the more temporal gratification of sheer physical attraction. That wouldn't make you a shallow person, would it?"
    ~~Lyle Lovett, "Here I Am"

  • "In a perfect world our ex-lovers would spontaneously combust or be automatically teleported to another hemisphere or something so we'd never have to experience the discomfort of being in the same room with somebody who knows what we look like naked but who no longer sees us with the fond (glassy?) eyes of a would-be sex partner.

There are some things that a girl just should not have to put up with."

    ~~Dances with Meeces

  • "...sh*t washes off. It just has a tendency to stick better in hot weather."
    ~~Amy Too

  • "Why is it that all the people who are against abortion are people you wouldn't want to fuck in the first place?"
    ~~George Carlin

  • "Fear will never hurt you. But the fear of failure may kill you."
    ~~Jack Lemmon

  • "Fear creates danger, and courage dispels it."
    ~~My fortune cookie, 7/7/97

  • "It has always been my belief that one should be as high maintenance as possible."
    ~~Marsha McKim

  • "I love my cats because I love my home. Little by little they become its invisible soul."
    ~~Jean Cocteau

  • "You're all invited to bite me!"
    ~~'Phoebe', Friends

In the words of that (ah-hem) masterful songwriter, Phil Collins...
    "Take, take me Home"
