Sad
(Pony Canyon)
from Straits Times Life! by Hu Wenyan

Kit Chan's album, Sad, is comparable to any first-rate Taiwan production in terms of song quality, music arrangement and singing technique. Chan's new album is definitely worth the one-year wait. Record producer Billy Koh shows a good grasp of the singer's vocal strength in the fine selection of songs that highlight the touching quality in her voice.

The selection comprises works by a new batch of Singapore songwriters whose styles are not yet polished but are nontheless refreshing. Their works do not have the rawness of campus songs but display maturity instead. The overall standard of the songs is commendable.

Appointment is an elegant and affectionate number, which allows Chan to give full play to her artistic skill. Her rendition of the fairy tale-like waltz number, Love Is So Near, reveals her temperament implicity.

Wet Eyes is original in its musical approach. Chan's alternative style in the New Age song, Missing Feeling, is proof of her creativity.

All the 10 songs featured are equally good. This is a classic album that is not to be missed.
