The
editor is a recently retired Navy Cryptologic Chief Warrant Officer, living
in Maryland. Conscripted in 1972, the Army sent him to the Defense
Language Institute, Monterey, CA to be trained in the Korean language.
After a brief three-year stint, including a tour in the Republic of Korea,
he returned to his native upstate New York. Dissatisfied with civilian
life, he enlisted in the Navy in 1981. He returned to the Defense
Language Institute to study Chinese Mandarin.
He served as a member of Cryptologic Direct Support Elements aboard
the USS Fife, USS Enterprise, USS Constellation, USS Carl Vinson, USS Reeves,
USS Pogy, USS Hawkbill, USS Topeka, USS Asheville, USS Tunny, USS Chicago,
and USS Bunker Hill. CWO Webb is an acknowledged Asian area expert.
He served in the Republic of Korea (five and a half years), the Kunia Regional
SIGINT Operations Center Hawaii (six and a half years), taught at Goodfellow
AFB, San Angelo, TX and served his final tour at Fort Meade, MD, home of
the National Security Agency. He is qualified in Submarines and worked
closely with Royal Navy, Royal Australian Navy and Japanese Maritime Self
Defense Force submariners. Hand-picked to lead a special Cryptologic Direct
Support Element, he supported the USS Bunker Hill during her historic visit
to Qingdao, PRC in 1995. He was cleared for TOP SECRET/Special Compartmented
Information.
The editor is married to Sandra Taylor and they have five children.
