My Pathetic Poetic Side

Yes, once in a while I decide to write a sappy poem or two...

THE FOUNTAIN BY THE WALL

Jason Theis

You and I,

We stood down at the fountain by the wall.

Just us, alone,

A walk in the park.

That was forever,

Nothing could tear us apart.

The golden sun shining,

An angel in the sky.

Just us, alone,

Until the day we die.

You said we'd last forever,

At the fountain by the wall.

Forever, until the day you left me,

At the fountain by the wall.

You told me to meet you,

I had to quit my job.

You meant the world to me, baby,

My love, my life, my soul.

You never told me,

About your life before the fall.

And now I'm alone here,

At the fountain by the wall.

I wanted to join you,

And the angel in the sky.

I really do love you dear,

But I just don't want to die.

You shattered my heart to pieces,

I thought I'd lost it all.

But you set me free,

At the fountain by the wall.

You said we'd last forever,

At the fountain by the wall.

Forever, until the day you left me,

At the fountain by the wall.

THE LOSS OF LOVE'S PERFECTION

Jason Theis

It was just yesterday,

When perfection shined upon the day.

Illuminating the path so clearly,

As we turned and walked the other way.

We could have had it all then,

Together for eternity.

But fate had other plans,

As our path abandoned tranquillity.

The solutions we discovered

To all that did us wrong,

They mean nothing now,

'Cause our divergent paths are long.

We should have stopped to observe

Everything which surrounded us.

We never took the time to see,

Always in such a rush.

I would like to go back to those days,

When life was so sweet.

But the path is muddled now,

Clarity no longer guides our feet.

We had something special then,

A moment in time now lost.

In that we can remember,

That which now lies in frost.

When did we stop communicating,

Misunderstanding's chill blanketing the land?

It is hard to recall now,

Even while we still walk hand-in-hand.

There must be a way of reviving,

All which we held so dear.

We cannot let go that easy,

Of that which was so near.

The path is just behind us,

Please, turn back with me.

The past is not that far behind us,

And perfection can still be ours to see.

The joys of life can still be had,

If only you will stop to see.

Let me lead you there,

To where we were, together, free.

I can see it beyond the horizon,

Lying just out of reach.

I know no other way,

In which of you, I can beseech.

I realize now,

Love's sweetness no longer seen.

The past was that sweetness,

But then our senses were not as keen.

The paths on which we stride

Are no longer related.

All our attempts to bring back the past

Have proved to be outdated.

The past can not come back to us,

Forward is the only way which remains.

It is hard to see you now,

Through all the driving rains.

Yesterday,

Was that when perfection bathed us?

Shining so brightly into our blind eyes,

Eyes in such a rush.

Our love could have been more than that,

A love to last us long.

In this world is there no justice,

Why must we do ourselves wrong?

I know what it was now,

That which is only a reflection.

My dear, I see it,

It was the loss of love's perfection.
