This is a coat in a tree out in the middle of nowhere. When Myra first saw it and said stop, I thought it was a turkey. We crept up on it and Myra kept saying it was the carcus of a deer. We had a big laugh and took the following photo. |
I took the jacket down and it had two lizards living in it. It must have been too cold for them to run. They never moved. I put the jacket back in the tree. It sure looked like a deer tho'. |
Myra looking into an abandoned mine shaft. |
Now here is what I thought was in that tree. There were several big deer right next to the road. Deer are out of season right now. |
As we drove down this dusty dirt road we came across this mail box. Thought Barbara would like to see it. |
To get to the old ghost town of Charleston, you had to follow the R/R tracks and cross the river. You can hardly see any of it now. |
Years ago when I first found this place it was like a real ghost town. You could see the adobe buildings and some remnants of a street. Now as you can see, it's so over grown with trees and shrubs you can hardly see any thing. |
Here is another old building, now it looks like an African termite mound. You used to be able to walk down the streets and see definite out lines of buildings. It's amazing to me how over grown it has become. |
Myra by another adobe. |
This is another ghost town, it's called Gleeson. Located right off the road and on private property. This is the old hotel. It's in pretty good shape since it was built in 1880 or so. |
We pulled off the road (about a mile and a half) and there is a rather excentric couple that live out there. It's a museum of sorts and everything is out side. While we were there, we saw no one. |
In side this trailer there were hand made items for sale. Some pretty neat stuff like knives, bolo ties, things made out of rattle snake .... belts, hat bands etc. Everything was priced and if you found something you wanted, you just put the money in a box out side the trailer. |
There is everything that ever fell off a covered wagon hangin' here and none of this stuff is for sale. They must be some very trusting people or they were sighting down on you from the bushes, just waiting for you to stick somthing in your pocket. |
Back on Ft. Huachuca there is a nice place way back in a valley called Garden Canyon. Here is a sign to help you stay out of trouble. |
If you keep going a few miles up the canyon you will come to some old petroglyphs (sp) Some of them are 3-4 thousand years old. |
Me headin' up to look at them. Kinda neet. They didn't photograph very well. |
