What is Telnet??
Welcome to the wonderful world of telnet chats!
Alot of you newbies out there might be thinking: "What is a telnet chat???" Well, unlike most web chats, telnet has always been a push based media. The interface is weird at first for those used to clicking and dragging all of the time, but you do get used to it very fast. You can do more virtual actions on a telnet chat than you can ever do on a web chat. Another thing about telnet is the low band-width requirement, unlike a web-based chat, which draws many kbps to show speech. Telnet chats will run at a peak of 100 bps, allowing you to download or websurf at the same time.Telnet chats have been around a lot longer than Webchats and the technolgies are better.

How Can I Get Telnet??
The answer is simple: I would first reccomend that you get a good telnet client, although windows terminal emulator will do and allows you to emulate all terminal types with maximum efficiency.

Ok I have the software, now what??
Now all you need to do is get a site to try it on...I run a telnet chat called Seven Realms and I have made it as easy as possible to use. Simply set up a session in your telnet application. In CRT that means going to new, and changing emulation to ANSI with ANSI colours, and putting in the:

Site Name:Seven Realms
Protocol: telnet
Hostname or IP: talker.org
Port: 4500

Once you connect, merely choose an alias and a password. This will log you on. Once logged on it is a matter of typing .help to see a list of commands available to you!!
