Welcome to the Music Lovers home page. I started the ring to show my love for music and to help other people show their love. If you want to join, scroll to the bottom, to the Music Lovers. Anyway, here's the stuff about music in my life.

I am a musician. Yesiree. It took me a while to realize that I actually was one. I've been playing piano since I was four and a half. Most of the time, I am displeased with my piano playing. I am very busy during the school year, so it's hard to find time to practice. This year I tried to find more time to play. I LOVE playing piano, but practicing can get frustrating. Right now, my favorite piece that I can play is a Brahms Intermezzo (op. 118 #2). I would recommend listening to all of the Intermezzo, because they are gorgeous.
I think, though, that my biggest music passion is composition. In addition to taking composition during the year, every summer since I was nine to 17, I have attended The Walden School, a summer music camp in New Hampshire. Not only did I love the people, the atmosphere, and the location, I learned so much there. Composition is the focus, but I've taken jazz classes, 20th century music classes, musicianship, and chorus. (by the way, our chorus is awsome!) I have won several awards and competitions, but that is not how I started identifying myself as a composer. I now feel comfortable calling myself a composer, and love being one.
***This summer at Walden i composed a piece i liked a lot, Piano Trio No. 1. though the following sound bites are not the best quality, I still think you should try and listen to them. Also, this only represents a tres small excerpt from my piece.
Click HERE to hear the beginning of the piece...the cello solo.

Let's cut to the chase. Click HERE to hear a BIG moment in the piece, followed by some of its wind-down...

I am sorry for the quality, but hey, I'm not professional. Also, thank you Violaine Melancon, Tom Kraines, and Carol Prochazka for playng this and recording it, even if they don't see my web page.

And of course, there are those little odds and ends musically in my life. I was in an a cappella group, Eightnotes, at my high school. We did everything from Classical, to R&B, to pop, to rap. We even did "Jump" by Kriss Kross (do you remember that song?). It was pretty fun.
In middle school, I played flute in the middle school band. I can't say I'm any good, and I hadn't played in a long time. Last summer, though, when I was hesitant to learn jazz on piano, I started improvising on flute, and it was fun. I don't think i'll start playing again, but last summer inspired me to pick up my brother's ten year old saxaphone and learn to play it. I planned to learn the notes on my own, so that I could then improvise jazz on it. I only ended up learned five notes, but whatever.
In eighth grade or so, I started to teach myself how to play guitar. By now I know a lot of the basic chords as well as several songs. After a summer of playing on my friend's guitar, I came home and discovered that mine was horrible. So, I went out and bought a beautiful black guitar. The only problem is that now, I am much poorer! But it's been worth it.

As far as listening to music, I listen to a big variety: jazz, classical, and rock. Monk, Lambert Hendricks Ross, Davis, Krall, Coltrane, Brahms, Stravinsky, Amos, Chapman, Beatles...those are some of the names in my CD player. That's it i guess
