New for 1998 was POWER TOWER. Power Tower is another in the line of world record breaking rides at Cedar Point. This ride designed by Stan Checketts of S & S Sports Power in Logan, UT, is the tallest vertical ascent and descent ride in the world; standing at 300 feet tall. The Turbo Drop portion of the takes riders up a slow ascent of 240 feet, stops them at the top and then releases them down and then back up halfway, bobbing continually until the ride is over. The Space Shot portion unexpectedly shoots riders 240 feet in the air and finishes with the same bobbing action as the other half. We both love this ride and its awesome to watch! Nothing like the view from the top then watching it all fall away unexpectedly. Oh yeah, a hint for you when you ride the UP portion, look up while you go up. |
Power Facts |
Ride Type | World's Tallest vertical ascent and descent thrill ride |
Who made this bad boy? | S & S Sports Power in Logan, UT |
Its Structure? | 4 240 foot tall steel towers, topped off with a 60 foot tall double arch. Red, teal and yellow accents |
How does it work? | It's all about compressed air. Riders will bounce halfway back up PT's structure before returning to the launch pad. |
How do ya sit? | As a rider, you are secured by shoulder restraints in outward-facing open-air seats that leave your legs dangling freely in the air. Cool, huh? |
Time Speed | 45 seconds up to 50 mph |
Where in the park is Power Tower? | If you can't see this thing from the end of the causeway, you need to get your vision checked. For you in the park people, the queue line entrance is right next to the "screw" part of Corkscrew. Trust us, you can't miss a 300 foot tall tower, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PARK (hint). |
How much did it cost? | No one knows...it's a mystery. Ask Richard Kinzel or Don Miears, they know. |
