Seventy-eight was not the low net score for the Festival that year!  In fact, Chuck Burk shot a net 63 but was eliminated from consideration for the Governor's Trophy because his score was also the low gross for the Festival [for which he received a much less prestigious award].


n 1995, Bill Lawler registered scores of either 4 or 5 on the last 10 holes at Bay Valley.  Bill finished with a 78, the tournament record  for low gross score.


olfers aren't the only things that come in foursomes - scores do, too.  In 1995, Jeff Deneen shot "fives" on the first four holes, Bruce Cooke started with four "eights," and Rich Hannum shot "sixes" on Holes 2 - 5.  "Saint Jeffrey" also registered four consecutive "sevens" during the 1989 Festival.


id you know that only one of Bay Valley's Par 3 holes has every been birdied during the S.I.?  Mike Rogala and Bill Lawler both performed the feat on the Heather Hole (No. 14) during the rain-shortened 1994 Invitational.

One-third of all Governors' Trophy winners have also received the Capt. D.H. Wyatt Award.

Answer:  Bruce Cooke won the Governors' Trophy in 1991 by shooting a net 59.


n 1995, Dick Madaras registered scores of either 5 or 6 on the first twelve holes at Bay Valley.  The "Duke of Inkster" went on to shoot 97 for the day, his lowest round at the Invitational.


f the nine golfers who have captured the coveted Governors' Trophy, three have also suffered the indignity of the Capt. D.H. Wyatt Award.  Can you name the men who have gone from worst to first (or vice versa)?
Answer:  Larry Bergquist (Governors' 1989, D.H. Wyatt 1994); Greg Turner (DHW 1993, GT 1995); Bob Miller (GT 1994, DHW 1996).


he Governors' Trophy is awarded each year to the golfer with the lowest net score.  The highest net score ever to win the S.I. was 78 [Bergquist in 1989].  But...


o you know:  which golfer has been honored with the greatest number of awards in the 10-year history of the Spinner Invitational?
Answer: Al Morrison, who has taken home six awards.  Al has been the recipient of the Pelican (Water) Award an unprecedented five times [including four straight Pelicans from 1992-1995] as well as the Capt. D. H. Wyatt Award in 1995.


id you know:  that the 15th hole plays as the most difficult during the S.I.?  The average score is 8.63 strokes.


he tournament record for low net score is 52 (set by Jim Wyatt in 1990).  Only one other player has shot a net score under 60.  Can you name him?
