First Round Results
The Stingarees fired a first-round 322 on Friday at the Victoria Fall Classic to lead New Braunfels by four strokes going into Saturday's final round. Only six individuals broke 80, two each from Victoria High and New Braunfels. Weston Bingham led all individuals with a 76 and teammate Jason Louth was one stroke back with a 77. Hagan Cohle of New Braunfels and Chris Stroud of Port Neches-Groves each shot 78. Three strokes back were St. Joseph's Jimmy Guenther and Michael Schafer of New Braunfels. Weston and Jason, along with Wes Pennington, who shot an 80, put the Stings in position to win the tournament when it finishes Saturday at Colony Creek. Wheeler Cain and Michael Trahan each had 89s for the Victoria High A team. Blake Perkins, who had an 80 and Todd McGlothlin, who carded an 81 to put the B team in 10th place out of the 17 team field. Ty Wllson also impressed with an 81 to lead the Victoria High C team. Stroman was paced by freshman Grant Murray's 94. Following Guenther for St. Joseph, was Joseph Lenz at 81. Final Day: Jason Louth fired a 3-under 68 Saturday for a two-day total of 145 to claim medalist honors amd lead the Stingarees to their first Victoria Fall Classic title in four years. Weston Bingham, who made a seven-footer on No.17 for birdie to win the playoff for third with Port Neches-Groves' Chris Stroud. Rounding out Vlctoria High's winning 628 total were Wes Pennington, who played the final seven holes Saturday at 1-under for a 79—159, Michael Trahan at 89-84—173 and Wheeler Cain 89-90—179. New Braunfels which matched Victoria High's 306 Saturday finished second, four strokes back at 632. New Braunfels was led by Hagan Cohle, who had a 78-71—149 for second individually. Corpus Christi Carroll fired a 307 Saturday to finish third at 639, while C.C. King and Uvalde tied for fifth with identical 334-313—647s. Victoria B, led by Blake Perkins' 80 81—161 and Todd McGlothlin's 80 82—162. Rounding out the B team scores were, Chase Bullock with 89 80—169, Skylar Byers at 89-84—173 and Joseph Montgomery, who improved 18 strokes from 95 to 77 for a 172 total. Jaret Chiles led the Vlctoria C team firing a 79 Saturday for a 164 total. A couple of St. Joseph Flyers did what they had to do as they bettered their team score by 27 strokes to finish 10th with a 348-321—669. Jimmy Guenther had a 79-75-154 to finish fifth medalist. He was followed by Joseph Lenz. Brett Hrabovsky was next for the Flyers at 92-85—177, followed by John Friedel at 97-85—182 and Pat Petrisky at 96-90—1~16. Stroman's best round Saturday was an 87 by John Gonzales. His two-day total was 185. Grant Murray was next at 94-96—190. |
