Results of the Victoria Fall Classic

First Round Results:
Victoria High's team posted an impressive 304 to seize an ll-stroke lead over second-place Hardin-Jefferson. "That might be the lowest opening round out here on this course we've had," Johnson said of their score at Victoria Country Club Friday. The Stings posted three scores of 76 or better with defending medalist Jason Louth leading the way with a 1-over-par 73. Todd McGlothlin was next at 75, followed by Caleb Etheredge at 76, Wes Pennington with an 80 and Wbeeler Cain's 81. Louth made the turn at 1-under but ran into trouble by getting in a bunker on No. 14. McGlothlin's score was even inore impressive than it looked considering he had a double bogey on the par-5 18th. McGlothlin had trouble off the tee just moments after draining an 8-footer for birdie on tbe par-4 17th to get to l-over. Close behind Class 3A defending state champion Hardin-Jefferson were Corpus Christi King at 316,Carroll at 317 and New Braunfels at 319.The individual race was a different story though as Louth and three others trailed Port Neches-Groves' Chris Stroud (72) by only one stroke. New Braunfels' Michael Schaeffer Carroll's Scott Philips and Pasadena Sam Rayburn's PJ. Ragsdale were the other three at 73. Five others were within four strokes of the lead. Victoria High's B team fired a 334 and was led by Wes Hendrix's 79. Michael Trahan had an 83, Skylar Byers an 84, Blake Perkins an 88 and Matt Hillyer a 90 to round out the total.The VHS C team was at 345 with Joseph; Montgomery leading the way with an 83. St. Joseph stood at 347, a couple off what coach Bobby Knox had hoped they would shoot.Jimmy Guenther shot an 81, Joseph Lenz an 86, John Friedel an 88, David Perez a 92 and Todd Thompson a 102 for the Flyers.Grant Murray paced the Stroman Raiders (377) with an 89. He was followed by Chris Flores at 91, John Gonzales at 98 and Jose Rodriguez with a 99.

Final Day:
Victoria High battled the windy conditions to shoot a 324 on Saturday after opening with a 304 Friday at Victoria Country Club, but still managed to defend their team championship with a 628. Victoria High actually managed to increase its lead by a stroke over Hardin-Jefferson, which finished second with a 315-325-640. Corpus Christi King was third with a 316 325-641. Chris Stroud of Port Neches Groves fought through the wind for his second consecutive round of 72, to claim medalist honors bv a margin of six strokes.Victoria High's Jason Louth, who shot a 73 on Friday, had a 77 on Saturday and wound up in a three way playoff with Brett Ashmore of Hardin-Jefferson and Brandon Destafano of Bryan for second place. Louth and Destafano each had par on No. 16, the first playoff hole, while Ashmore dropped out with a bogey and finished fourth. Ashmore shot par on No. 17 to claim second place while Louth finished third after bogeying the hole. Louth's 77 was the best score for the Victoria High A team. Caleb Etheredge had an 80 to finish with a 155 and Todd McGlothlin shot 84 to finish with a 159. Wes Pennington had an 83 and finished with a 163 and Wheeler Cain shot 91 to finish with a 172. Victoria High's B team dropped five strokes and finished with a 329 for a 663 total. Skylar Byers led the way with a 79 for a 163 total. Wes Hendrix shot a 79-86-185, Michael Trahan had a 83-84-167, Blake Perkins shot a 88-80-168 and Matt Hillyer had a 90-89-179. Jeremy Lee had a 88-84-172 to lead the Victoria High C team (345- 350-695) and Lane Trautwein shot an 89-85-174 to pace the Victoria High D team (367-354-721). Jimmy Guenther shot an 81 76-157 for St. Joseph (347-332-679). Joseph Lenz had an 86-77-163, John Friedel shot an 88-88-176, David Perez had an 92-91-183 and Todd Thompson shot 102-94-19 . Grant Murray had a pair of 89's finish with a 178 and pace Stroman (377-373-750). Chris Flores shot a 91-98-189, John Gonzalez shot a 98 92-190, Jose Rodriguez had a 99- 94-193 and Shawn Smith shot a 118- 98-216.
