Miss Puerto Rico Universe was celebrated at November 4, 1999 in the Centro de Bellas Artes in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The pageant was great, and I almost felt I was watching Miss Universe International instead of Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2000.
The host of the pageant was Braulio Castillo, Jr. The co-hosts were Desirée Lowry, Miss Puerto Rico 1995, and Ana Rosa Brito, Miss Universe Puerto Rico 1997.
That night judges were Norma Burgos, Socorro Rivas, John Pagán, Francisco Rodón, Wendy Fitzwilliam, Peter Elías, Jorge Rodríguez, Ileana Colón Carlo, Félix "Tito" Trinidad, Kimberly Casiano and Luisito Vigoreaux, Hijo.
The guest was the Mexican Singer Pablo Montero.
The ten picks of the people were:

Naranjito, a former model of the TV program "El Súper Show" of Channel 4 in Puerto Rico. The producer also produces the TV Program "Vale Más", where Miss Dominican Republic 1999 works.
Miss Guaynabo is the daughter of the owners of Plaza Las Américas, the most important Shopping Mall in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Some people argued the pageant could be biased for her influence.

Miss Naranjito failed to get into the 3 finalist group because she got too nervous when answering a question. All others answered naturally, specially Miss Guaynabo, which question was longer than usual. People liked that naturally she came when answering.
The last question was: "If you could change make better three situations of Puerto Rico, towards the next millenium, what would they be?"
Miss Guaynabo said about education, drugs and the communication among the family members.
Miss Ponce said about child care, domestic violence and the way people shares among themselves.
Miss Utuado said about a problem in Puerto Rico with the island-municipallity of Vieques (concerning the US Marine that has a base there), pregnancy in young ladies and communication in the society.
Everything was done after that. A comparison between the lady and her beauty,and her answer made the way to the final result.

Congratulations to Zoraida Isabel Fonalledas Ferraiouli, the new Miss Puerto Rico Universe, who will represent Puerto Rico in Miss Universe, the next May in Cyprus!
