Sammkit Starrclaw

A Bard of Elanthia!

Heyo ev'rbody! I'm Sammkit! Sammkit Starrclaw. I came to Elanthia with all the other Prydaens during the Great Migration. When I was just a kit, I wandered away from my pride and managed to get myself lost among the multitude of fleeing Prydaens. I have been on my own ever since. As a result of my solitary kithood, I really enjoy the company of others. I love to sing, recite limericks, tell stories and fables, dance and do tricks. I find that most folks enjoy anything that will help them forget their troubles, or anything that will give them a good laugh. I try to oblige them by performing, whenever the opportunity arises. Always have....always will!

When I arrived in Crossing, I wandered the streets looking for a place to fit in. I thought that being Prydaen, mayhaps I should become a ranger, protector of the great outdoors. Possibly, since I loved to hunt and fight, I might become a barbarian. Or perhaps, a warrior mage or moon mage, so I could learn magic and help to reinforce the Great Barrier that holds back the undead. I thought of many paths I could follow, but all seemed so somber and dull to me.

Then, as I was walking along the street, my ears twitched as a beautiful sound was wafted on a breeze throughout the area. It was the music from the Bards' Guild that drew my attention. I entered the small building and was greeted by Silvyrfrost, the Bards' Guildmistress in Crossing. She welcomed me and must have sensed some bardic ability within me, for she sung to me and asked me to join the Bards' Guild. I did, for I have always been a bard at heart, but now I am one in name as well. Besides, what better way to get a chance to perform for the masses, than by being a bard?

Being a bard means being able to make others smile. It is the ability to hear a song or story once and be able to perform it again, and again, and again, to the delight of young and old, large and small, rich or poor. It means collecting lore and tales from around the town, the province, or the realm and relating it to those who want or need to know. Being a bard means having fun with everything I do, always being ready to break into song or dance. Basically, being able to perform on a moments notice. And performing is what it is all about.

I am always ready to add some wit or remark to make you think, or add some humour to lighten things up. No, I am not a fool or a buffoon, I am a bard. I am the lore keeper. I am the tale teller. I am the song singer. I am the bringer of news, whether good or bad. I am an actor and a dancer. I am a romancer. It has been said that a bard is a Jack of all trades, but a master of none. Not so, I am master of my own destiny. I am a Bard!

So, If ya happen to come across a young, good looking, Prydaen Bard, playing his mandolin and singing on the street corner, it just may be me. Stop and listen a bit. Enjoy! And if ya care to tip a coin or two, by all means.....please do!
