An overall view of the new Lounge/Dining Area (as seen from the kitchen). Two fabrics
were used in these renovations. The first was a calico type curtain fabric and the
other was the floral which you see below.

These three photographs represent the three walls of the lounge room.
The fourth "wall" is open, home only to two armchairs. I added two cushions to each of
these, one in calico and one in the floral, to bring them into the theme of the room.

The alterations on this wall included the making of extra cushions in calico, adding ivy to cover
some scratch marks on the china cabinet, and the making of a slip cover (with pleated corners)
to hide the fact that my lamp table is actually three boxes stacked one on top of the other.
A vase of fabric tulips, pussy willow and reeds and the effect was complete.

The back window finally received its first curtain, calico with a 4 inch hem in the floral fabric.
Other additions to this wall included a video cabinet (made out of four grape crates nailed
together with a centre shelf in each), two tall black candlesticks (one wrapped in ivy)
with matching green candles, and an old antique plant stand, which was stripped, painted
and antiqued and topped with a new plant.

My eternal thanks to dear old dad for the video cabinet and the curtain rod.

The corner unit was dressed up with a few photo frames I had lying around the house, to which I
added small cross-stiches of butterflies and flowers in the new colours of the room.

The third wall renovations consisted of adding a 6 inch hem in the floral fabric to the existing calico curtains to
bring them in line with the rest of the room. Runners for the window box and coffee table (not shown)
were made in the calico (with a 4 inch hem on each end in the floral). The sunflowers, candles and oil burner
were then arranged on top. The terracotta pots were painted in pink and blue which, with the green and
yellow of the sunflowers, brought the four new colours of the room into a single item.
The window box is an old wooden stereo box with a hinged lid, which can be used as a blanket box in winter.
