Learning Geocities![]() Suppose you wanted to make a page on your friends that you have met on the internet. You would go to http://www.oocities.org/neighborhoods and look for a neighbohood to fit the topic that you were going to choose. Since yours is about friends, it looks like SouthBeach would be a good neighborhood for you. (It doesn't matter the neighborhood that I'm saying right now, because the way that you go to get a homepage is the same with any neighborhood.) ![]() OK--now that you've picked a neighborhood, you need to go to that neighborhood's main page. SouthBeach's would be http://www.oocities.org/SouthBeach. Then you would click on the link that says, Join this neighborhood. After you click on this link, it will show you all of the available "homes". You will then click on one of the links, and look in that "block" for the house that is available. You will be able to identify this because the house will say "Vacant." Then, you just click on the house. ![]() Next, you will agree to the guidelines, and then you will enter a bunch of information about yourself. After this is through, you will be e-mailed a password. And guess what? That's the whole process of signing up for a home page. ![]() Now, once you get your homepage, what do you do to set up a page?? I'll tell you. You go to http://www.oocities.org/members/tools/file_manager.html and you enter your membername and password. Then you click the submit button, and it will take you to the File Manager. Make a check in the box marked "index.html" and then change your editor at the bottom to the "Basic Editor". Then, press edit. This will take you to a page where you fill out a form. Fill it out, preview it, and then save it. This will be the beginning of your web page! :) ![]() See, building a web page is not hard at all!
