Announcing the newest addition to our family
20 July 2001
He may not realize it yet, but his name is Quincy Cole. We call him Quinn. Quinn the Eskimo. The Mighty Quinn. If you are feeling withdrawal, he responds to Bobcat just as well.
19 July 2001
Berkeley visited his new brother yesterday. We were pretty concerned about his reaction. The baby was in the nursery when Berke arrived, which was very good because Berke was a little displeased with seeing Mom in a hospital bed. Once Berke got used to the room and Kim in bed, I retrieved Bobcat.
Berke was very interested in this little kid. At first he wanted to touch the baby's exposed feet. We asked him if he wanted to kiss the baby. He gave the baby a hug and kiss on the forehead. And again. And again. Until Berke got a present from Bobcat a fire truck. Fire truck is more interesting than baby.
Still no name yet. We have a list of 8 and are narrowing, testing and voting. Funny thing is half the people who have e-mailed like Bobcat and half write "let us know when you pick the real name." Then again, a small but vocal minority are (is) still pushing for Armando.

Still working on the name. Had some requests to see his massive amount of dark hair. Here goes.
Also, a nice picture of baby with mother.
17 July 2001
This is in the O/R just before delivery. Kim is feeling well. Her belly is in the reflection.
We are temporarily calling him Bobcat a name that was stricken from the list.
Mom is a little loopy from the medication. Bobcat seems pretty happy to hear her voice.
13 July 2001
Sonogram went well yesterday. Baby is healthy and ready to go (head down). Baby is estimated at 8 pounds 11 ounces. That's 5 ounces more than Berke was and Berke was 12 days late.
Stay tuned...
5 July 2001
Next sonogram is scheduled for 12 July. Checking to make sure that all the parts are fully developed. It's a little harder to see non-internal features this late in the pregnancy, so we may not get a better view (until birth).
The belly Kim's is ready. The heart rate baby's is on the low end (may indicate a boy, although Berke's was on the high end usu. indicating a girl) and the baby has turned downward.
Berke has been sleeping in his new room for almost a week now. He has a twin mattress on the ground (not so far to fall). He doesn't seem to mind his new quarters as long as you spend a few minutes with him after lights out.
I pictured him running around in the dark and playing with his toys on the first night. Dark does not seem to bother him at all. Instead, he just wanted some company and reassurance.
12 June 2001
Name the child. Please.
We don't even have a good short list.
17 May 2001
Thought we should include a picture of Kim's progress since we have no good ones of the baby. Here's Kim (waiting for someone) in Mexico.
25 April 2001
Why no updates? Well, we've had a more recent sonogram but the results were less clear than the one below (click here for a downloadable version).
Kim is doing really well. She's weighing about the same as with the last pregnancy. She has had no food aversions or cravings. No morning sickness. Lots of kicking and much earlier than Berkeley did.
So, what's to say? We plan to move Berke to the current the guest room in June.
27 January 2001
This is the first picture of C a sonogram at 15 weeks taken 26 January. For those of you having trouble visualizing, move the mouse over the picture.
Why C? When Berkeley was very little we decided it wasn't appropriate to call someone that small a long name like Berkeley. So his name was often abbreviated to B. Since this kid comes after B, we are naming her C.
Her do you say? We don't know, it's wishful thinking.
Another 25 weeks to go. Due date is currently set at July 19, 2001. Mom is doing well. In fact, Kim has had almost none of the traditional pregnancy side effects (except for tiredness) so far.
Stay tuned for updates.
