Living in Sudbury offers the best of two worlds,
a metropolitan city and plenty of outdoor recreation.
Its the largest centre in Northern Ontario with a total
population of 161,000. We have 157 lakes in the area
and rank among the top communities in Canada with
park land per capita. Lake Ramsey, the largest
city-contained lake in North America, is near the
downtown area. Bell Park, Science North and
Laurentian University are all located along
the lake shore. Area lakes and parks are popular
settings for camping, fishing, boating and swimming.
There are 5 beautiful provincial parks all within
100 km. (60 mi.) of Sudbury including Windy Lake
and Fairbanks Lake Provincial Park. Of course,
no discription of Sudbury would be complete
without at least one mention of mining.
Our Creighton nickel and copper mine, which
was the first to use electrical mining equipment
(installed 1906), is the deepest mine in Canada,
reaching a depth of about 7200 feet (2.2 km).
