Aug 18, 1999: Added Great Tank and Contra screen shots.
Jul 31, 1999
My first arcade experience is when i was at the airport terminal in
Japan I think. There is this cool game called Shinobi. The graphics
were great at that time and i remember having trouble getting past
the first boss.
What about the Nintendo Famicom (Family Computer)? I got a set in Hong Kong. But not a lot games though. 1943, Great Tank, Contra, Super Contra?, one or two others and that's about it. But they are all addictive. There was this shop in Bukit Timah Plaza, where guys were playing Castlevania, Contra. Mario, At that time I thought they were the coolest games around but strangely enough I never personally played the Mario series.
Next is the SEGA Mega Drive. Again not a lot of games, but this is the system where I spent comparatively the most time on. A few sports titles like NHL Hockey 94, Fifa, Sensible Soccer. Others were Streets of Rage series, Shinobi series, Shadow Dancer, Contra series again, Castlevania series (again), Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition or something, Sonic The Hedgehog series, Gunstar Heroes, Ecco the Dolphin, etc make up the collection. I really should have gotten a Super Nintendo, there are many classic games for that system but the megadrive ain't half bad.
In the states, I have a Sony Playstation. I really didn't spend a lot of time on this system either. Some of the games I owned at one time or other were Metal Gear Solid, Need for Speed 3, Gran Turismo, Castlevania: Symphony of the night, Fifa 99, Lunar Silver Star Story Complete (I have yet to play this one), Resident Evil 2, Crash Bandicoot Warped, Street Fighter Collections, SF Alpha 3, Spyro The Dragon, Klonoa, NBA Live 99.
So no favoritism here. I have owned products from the current big 3,
Nintendo, Sega, and Sony, in that order. Edge goes to SEGA since
they're arcade masters. Then why the hell is this page a Famicom one?
Well that is how I got started and this site is all about history
from my point of view. The first system is always memorable if
starting to fade from memory and it is an attempt to hang on to them.
My experiences with all the systems and arcade are limited at best.
don't dump a lot of coins when I go arcade, don't buy or play tonnes
of games or spend a lot of time on them. Everything's restrained. I
would love to get another copy of Great Tank as well as a new
Famicom. I don't know where the cartridge ended up, all this moving
house business plus my own careless and messy behavior contrived to
make it disappear. The Famicom doesn't seem to work properly.
ROMS give the old systems new leases of life although they are far inferior to the real thing and I couldn't get the NES emulator to spit out any sound at all although in truth I haven't tinkered with the settings much. I have also messed around with MAME (arcade) and C64/Spectrum (Commodore64) emulators as well. although that is b4 I found out about the abandonware sites. Nothing beats playing games as they are intended. ROMS and emulators are for the most part a hassle. Emulators for every conceivable systems are also available, although I don't have the inclination or the patience to try them out.. yet

As it implies it is more than just famicom but you can always manually scroll back the site. Game spotlights every week or month. Devoted to many systems. Excellent. |
