Adding SouthBeach Webrings

We all know that webrings can bring traffic to your site, so let's just get down to the basics and learn how to put a WebRing on your page!

PROCEDURES

Since this tutorial is under the intermediate section, we presume that you're already familiar with editing HTML pages -- a topic that has been discussed in the basics section. If you're not familiar with it, feel free to side track to the Editing HTML pages tutorial first. Do note that the latter will appear in another browser window.

WARNING It is essential that you had understood the contents of the Editing HTML pages tutorial before you embark with the rest of this tutorial.

The following are the steps you should take to have a webring on your GeoCities page

  • The first thing you will have to do is determine which WebRing you are eligible for.  Your suburb is in your address.  If your address is http://www.oocities.org/SouthBeach/Lagoon/9797/ then your suburb is Lagoon.  If your page is in Cabana, chose the Cabana 'burb...If your page is in Coast...chose the Coast 'burb...You get the idea!  You can find the suburb listings here.

  • When you click on the page for your burb, you will find many other burbs on that same page.  Just scroll until you see the ring for your 'burb.

  • Click on the join link for your burb

  • You will be taken to a page that will direct you to download the graphic(s) to your hard drive.  Need help downloading? Note that WebTV users should make use of the Star Boulevard Transload Service so they can download and eventually upload the images to their accounts. For more WebTV-related information, please visit Karen's Tutorials.

  • You will also have a form to fill out, or you will find a link to a form for you to fill out. On that form you will be directed to fill in the actual address of the page where your Webring will appear.  Example:  If your site is http://www.oocities.org/SouthBeach/Lagoon/9797 but your webrings are at http://www.oocities.org/SouthBeach/Lagoon/9797/webrings.html then the webrings.html must be part of the address.  Okay easy so far, huh?

  • Once you have submitted the form, you will be transported to a confirmation of submission page.  This means you are in the queue for the ring ONLY.  You are not added to the ring yet.  You are almost there though!

  • You will receive the HTML fragment in your email.  Copy and paste that HTML fragment onto your page.

  • EZupload or ftp the graphics(s) you saved, to your file manager.  Need help uploading?

  • Notify the Ringmaster (as directed in your email) that you have completed the above steps and request addition to the ring.

Congratulations! At this point, you should already know how to acquire and place a webring on your GeoCities page.
