Rowing

Before coming to Canada, there was little chance for me to try anything athletic. But in my second year (my junior year) in SMS, Regina Montag, the school rowing coach as well as one of the house mothers in the residence halls, asked me if I would be interested in joining the school rowing team. I didn't even know what "rowing" was, let alone being interested in it. I joined anyway, and I fell in love the second time in my life. I went on to join the Victoria City Rowing Club (VCRC) with 3 other teammates from our school. It was a blast. Unfortunately, rowing is a sport enjoyed only by those who are involved. Most people look at it with indifference. But people who are fortunate enough to be involved in the sport usually develop a passion that lasts a lifetime.

Still the same crew... trying to adjust our direction so we can be on our way.
SMS Four. Front to back: Kiomi, me, Shu, and Megan. Sorry you can't see the coxin there... I think it was Lynn, if I remember it right.
Our high school coach Regina and Shu, two of my favorite people in the world :)
Brad Pitt??? Brad Pitt look-alike? This guy was a member of the Canadian National Rowing Team. He was also the object of everybody's affection for a period of time :)
Canadian National Team Man's Eight getting ready for their daily practice.
This was taken right after we won our heat at the Brentwood International Regatta. We went on to win the third place. Anna in the middle was our coach at the VCRC.
Here we are showing off our bronze metals with Anna.
A safety boat at the VCRC on Elk Lake in Victoria. It's such a beautiful place.
