Oklahomans

for

Censorship and Fascism

Okay, they are usually known as Oklahomans for Children and Families.

This organization was founded by George Harper (d. 1992) under the name Oklahomans Against Pornography (OKAP). Succeeding him in leadership of this fine organization was Bob Anderson, Colonel, USAF (Ret) and the name was changed at that time.

Who were these men? Who gives a sh*t?? They were dirty old perverts.

You see, this is the way OCAF works: someone finds an objectional piece of material, whether it be pornographic comic books, videos or library books, report them to the media as objectionable material and then lobby local, county, and state governing bodies to have these objectionable materials removed from wherever they happen to be located.

You may ask, how do they find this objectionable material? Well, this is one reason I call the founders of this group perverts. Someone has to "find" the material, and then peruse it very carefully to see just how bad it really is. Hmmm... I wonder who does that? An OCAF board member, do you suppose? See what I mean?

Read about the Planet Comics debacle. As of a few months ago, OCAF had targeted the German movie "The Tin Drum" about a young man who decides to never grow up. The movie shows a couple of supposedly sexually explicit scenes, including a scene of the young man (at the time aged 16) going down on his 17 year old babysitter (you can see her bare rear-end, and she is standing up at the time). OCAF calls this "child pornography." The movie was found on the shelf of a branch of the Metropolitan Library System.

The definition of "pornography" is "writings, pictures, etc. intended primarily to arouse sexual desire." This movie was not made to "arouse sexual desire." Nor were the "objectionable" scenes. This is a very powerful movie and I urge anyone who has not seen it to do so at your convenience.

What was the result of this targetting? OCAF members were unsuccessful in convincing the Metropolitan Library System to remove it from circulation, so they convinced an Oklahoma County Judge to declare the movie pornographic and it was forceably removed from the MLS shelves. Not only that, but the movie was removed from any location carrying it, including Hollywood Video, Blockbuster Video and several of the smaller chains. In one case, a head of the local chapter of the ACLU had rented a copy from his local Blockbuster to view in order to see what all the fuss was about, when uniformed officers came to his home and confiscated the "illegal" tape. Daryl Lease wrote an article about this that you might like to read.

Since then, a cafe in Norman, which is in adjacent Cleveland County, screened the movie on three nights over one weekend for free and were overwhelmed at the number of Oklahoma County residents who came to see it. OCAF was unsuccessful in convincing Cleveland County officials that the movie was pornographic. To find out more, check out Tin Drum Controversy.

OCAF's web site lists the following "accomplishments": (my comments are in italics)

Worked to have Playboy Channel removed from Cox Cable in Oklahoma City
Aren't we happy? You can see almost the same thing on prime time!

Helped to close over 150 sexually oriented businesses over a 5 year period in Oklahoma County
Maybe if they got a little more they leave everybody else the hell alone!

Reported rapes in OK County. were reduced by 27% over that period
Great! This means 27% more rape victims are convinced that they deserved it, or that there is no reason to report such a "shameful" occurrence. I feel better, don't you?

Sexually transmitted diseases were also reduced during this same time
Wow! By how much? So people just aren't getting tested? So more rapists are using condoms while having forced intercourse with their muted victims?

Presented OU officials with evidence of child porn on OU computers (Mar '96)
College students, 18 and over, making choices as to what they want to view and read about? How dare they!
By the way, I do not condone child pornography on the internet or anywhere else for that matter. -- Clio

HCR 1097 in OK Legislature- directs no obscenity permitted on state computers
Most state computers are so old they don't even have modems!

Obtained Governor's Executive Order based on HCR 1097
Gee, OCAF is a bunch of perverted, busybody Republicans and they managed to convince a Republican governor to sign an Executive Order? How odd!

OCAF now the national leader in the fight against Internet pornography
Oklahomans for Censorship and Fascism, coming to a state near you!

Now it's Clio's turn again:

OCAF is *NOT* a government organization. OCAF does *NOT* represent my views, and they do *NOT* have any right to choose what I read, what I watch and what I listen to. If you feel the same way, speak out against censhorship!
