My Weekly Rant !!

June 13th '98

Well here I am, it's the day of the Summer Ball, what has been described and advertised as the biggest student formal in the United Kingdom this year, and true to English tradition, it's raining! Yes can you believe it ?? Oh well, maybe it'll clear up, but it's given me a chance to finally write a new Rant.
Today, Saturday the 13th of June, is boring. All the girls who are attending the Ball have realized that there is only 6 hours left, and so are busy getting ready and plastering, or applying their make-up. The males, on the other hand, have, as always, decided not to get ready until 30 minutes before leaving, and so are mostly watching television, which means the World Cup will have extra viewers today !! ;0)
Me, however, I decided to write my last Rant as a first year at University, and also for the last time in England for 3 months, and reminisce about my first year at University .... *cue the wobbly lines that indicate a flashback*
My first day, and even week, wasn't too bad. I was worried about starting late ( Three weeks after every one else started ) but I met new people, and good friendships have sprung up. In fact, some of the first people that I ever met, are going to be my housemates next year !! Armed with my new found friends, we began to do the student thing, go out drinking. This is where I discovered my second important detail about life - I do not make a very good drunken person. Not only do I not require very much to drink before I began talking loudly, professing my undying love to anyone and everyone, but I fall over too and make irrational judgments, like refusing to get up from the road, even though a car was coming and didn't indicate any sign of slowing down or going around my drunken body. However, one incident like this never deters anybody, and it infact took many nights of getting very drunk and being put to bed by people who just think too much (they put buckets by my bed "just in case" !!) and what seems like even more mornings, and afternoons, waking up with what can only be described as a killer hang over, and wandering my Halls of Residence, armed with a carton of Orange Juice promising never to do it again and avoiding all the people (and lamp posts !!!!)that I had the previous night confessed my undying love for !
These are not the only valuable lessons that I have learned, Oh NO!! I have learnt that:
1. Selotape is a great way of sealing off an ant's entry route into your bedroom.
2. That a whole big bottle of Southern Comfort drank in 45 minutes not only makes you very drunk, but makes other people start placing wagers on how long it's going to be before you get taken away by an ambulance to get your stomach pumped.
3. That no matter how much you plan, when you go to a night club with your friends, you always end up returning home separately for one reason or another.
However my year at University has been fun, I have enjoyed my first year in Halls of Residence, fending for myself, and I have made a lot of very good friends.
SO now looking forward, next year I am living in a house with 2 other males and 2 females, a big kitchen and a bathroom with a bath, which means there's going to be shouting on a Sunday when people are queueing up to use it. There's also two more years of work, and this is when I really start working for my degree, so more homework and coursework to look forward to, oh YIPPEE !! ;0)
