normal use!)
That which was made for a good and perfect reason will be turned into
something bad or harmful!
What then is the purpose of life?
If our definitions are true then purpose has to be discovered
because it is not automatically known (i.e. we have to learn what
we can do, what we are talented and gifted to do). Also if we want to find out
the specific purpose in our life then we have to go to our source.
The next question that arises is: What or who is our source?
If purpose
(see definition) requires a reason for
which something is made, we have to come to the conclusion that our
source must be intelligent enough to be able to reason and think. That
on the other hand cancels the idea that our origin derived from merely
dust or a random selective process of reactions between molecule complexes,
since neither one of them is capable of producing a reasonable, intelligable
thought in itself, let alone purpose. So if we originated from "dust" only
without any intelligence behind it, there would be no purpose
or meaning of life at all, since there also would be no "Manufacturer".
That means we must have been created - not only that, but
this Creator
must be intelligent because we are (a product cannot be more intelligent than it's
manufacturer! Even a computer can only do what it's progamer knows!).
He must be a designer with taste and a sense for beauty, because
we have the the same ability.
He must have emotions and being
able to love because we can.
Further He must have a sense for justice
and truth, because we want to be dealt with truthfully and
just by others!
All of those qualities and far more can be seen in
the Creator and God descibed in the Bible. If we truthfully have a purpose
then there must be a Creator and He in some way also has to provide
instructions and a way for us to find that purpose, since it originated out of His
mind. He indeed left His instructions for the purpose of His creation
and we can read those in the Bible (God's Word).
In the Bible God says that we are
created in
His image and He gave us a purpose (a general
and specific one), visionand the
potential
to fulfill it in our life time.
Taking all of this in consideration, we come to a conclusion
that the purpose of life can only be found in God.
The Bible says
(in
Ecclesiastes 3:11) that God has put eternity in pepole's heart.
It is like a shaped emptiness, if we may say so, that keeps us
searching for that "is there anything more in life" to fill it!
This can be observed everywhere around the world in every person,
tribe and nation! That void is making us uncomfortable untill it
is filled out. So many people try to fill it with many things in
the search for relief in many wrong places. Any form of material
things, drugs or intoxicating substances, relationships or
self-fulfillment through our own abilities (The word itself is a hint that directs it
to the "filling of one's emptiness"!) is unable to fill
it, even if some of those things can bring temporary relief,
the emptiness will appear even greater trying to do so (That's
the main reason why many famous and wealthy people commit suicide,
in spite of all the fame and material possessions!)
Only God alone is able to fill out that emptiness (after all He is the One Who created it in the first place!). He will not do this automatically though, but we have to ask Him. The emptiness exists due to a seperation from God that took place because of sin (disobedience and rebellion against God). Because God loves us and demonstrating His love He provided a way to reverse that seperation through His son JESUS CHRIST, who, dying on the cross, took our sin upon Himself and once and for all canceled it, taking away the very reason for the seperation. On top of that God raised Him from the dead and Jesus went back into heaven (without dying!)
So, what do we have to do with that?
Well, here is the part where we have to do a little step of action!
In order to claim the benefits of being together with God again,
to get rid of that emptiness permanently and even to be with God
after we die,
we just need to accept what Jesus did there on the cross for
us and acknowledge that we have sin in our lives that seperated
us and ask him to fill that emptiness (He will do this by His
Spirit) and let Jesus become our Savior (from that sin that
brings seperation and death) and our Guide through life (so that
the purpose that He created us for will be accomplished!).
And since He is alive and can hear us we can ask Him by merely
talking to Him and He is the One that can reveal that specific
purpose to us. Yes, we even can have a living relationship with JESUS
through the Spirit of God. Out of that relationship, which is God's
desire, we will come to recognize our purpose and obtain the fulfillment
and peace of mind we are longing for in our lives.
The very fact that you where born and are alive today is the
evidence that God has a specific purpose in mind when He created
you in your mother's womb. So your birthday is not an accident, but
was planned by God, because He put something in you that this world
needs today - that means there is something in this world that
still needs to be done that required YOU(!) to fulfill it!
But only God can make this known to you!
