~The Quest~
This forest scares you to death. The shadows swoop and dance, and eerie animals call to you...you try to ignore them and focus on the two sets of footprints that wind their way through this terrifying mass of forbidding trees.
A faint blue flash catches your eye...what in the heck? You venture closer, and find a scowling girl in a black outfit yelling at what you suppose to be the twins Ophelia and Esmerelda. You creep closer and try to catch the conversation:
"You prissy princesses will pay for this!"
screeches the girl.
"Never got over it, did you, Dicristia? Never could stand that Dalenmar
left you to court me when you turned to evil, huh? That's what's stuck
in your craw and it's made you old before your time," says the dark-haired
girl furiously.
"Face it, Dicristia. You're just an old hag. Oh sure, you may have
Acherano to use you and make you feel loved in your pitiful little heart,
but inside you're just a lonely child. You had your chance with good, and
us. But you lost it when you became so jealous that you took every opportunity
to spite us. That hurts, doesn't it?" says the blonde girl with a
sneer.
Dicristia's face twists into a truly evil expression. "Acherano loves
me!"
"Yeah, right. He's just using you," laughs the dark-haired girl.
"You'll pay for that, you sorry little wretch!" Dicristia sneers,
and suddenly raises her hand. A bolt of fiery green lightning shoots straight
at the dark-haired girl and knocks her over.
With a cry of pure rage, the blonde girl cups
her hands, and throws--a bright blue ball of magic. It strikes Dicristia,
and small lightning bolts strike all over her. The girl does it again and
again, forcing Dicristia to her knees.
The blonde girl kneels beside the dark-haired one, and picks her up. She
shoots an evil look at Dicristia, and the witch lurches like something
has struck her.
"You haven't seen the last of me yet!"
rasps Dicristia, and she disappears in a large cloud of foul-smelling smoke.
The smoke completely blocks your vision, and your eyes water as you cough.
Geez, but that's powerful stuff.
When the smoke clears, there's no one there. The girls have gone. You look for the footprints, and start to follow them again. That has to be Ophelia and Esmerelda, you just know it!
