BEACHES
The island's true gems are undoubtedly its many beaches, nestled mostly on the western shores, midway between Sveti Blaz and the Bay of Ustrine. Some of them have the look of a hollow shell, slowly disappearing into the emerald-blue sea. These shells have been washed out by centuries of rain and sea waves, waves that in time were able to round and smooth the limestone sediments from which these shores have been formed. Some of these beaches can be reached by walking on the age-old pathways that lead you past the "gromacas", the green spruces and olive tree trunks, while being accompanied by the scents of rosemary, thyme and mint. Others can be found by the camping sites, such as the almost 500m long Slatina Beach, while again others can only be reached by sea. To visit these, one should certainly take advantage of the organized daily excursions, which are also the only way that the so-called "Blue Cave" in the Bay of Zanja, governed by a spectacular play of lights and water, can be visited. It is hard to resist the call of these clear blue waters in which your submerged body takes on an indescribable feeling of pleasure and ease. NAUTICAL TOURISM The rapid growth of nautical tourism proves that the old saying "navigare necesse est" is taking on new meaning. It's a basic human longing for the substance from which everything else has emerged, for the elemental force that scares every seaman, but that also unavoidably attracts him, thereby regenerating his body and mind. It is this very same naval tradition of the islands that is being passed on, giving younger generations the knowledge, shrewdness, ingenuity, and love of sea. This tradition is underscored even further by the archipelago's natural configuration that makes for ideal navigation conditions. When seeing the shores of Cres for the first time, you get the impression that you're standing in front of a fascinating beauty that still awaits your exploration. The wide strand that descends towards the sea, wrapped in thick Mediterranean vegetation, appears to be a homogenous and bullet-proof vest, partly interrupted by the blinding whiteness of the beaches. The crystal-clear waters fill the wide bays, making them perfect havens for people that are seeking solitude and cohabitation with an uspoiled environment. For all of those, however, that demand comfort and like meeting new people the region's marinas, especially the Cres Marina built in 1992 and one of the most satisfy them in these regards. The islands boast the most diverse possibilities in terms of sports activities related to nature; from going for an outing and visiting the island's highlands, to bicycle riding, water-sports, and especially scuba-diving, which unveils to the explorer a fantastic underwater world.
