TRIBUTE TO "MAUI"

MAUI was a 5 year old Newfoundland
dog,
similiar to the one in the picture,
who gave his own life while trying to rescue
three
strangers who had gotten in trouble while
swimming 100 meters ofshore on the French
Island
of Corsica. He towed the troubled
swimmers to within 20 meters of the beach,
where
they could be reached and helped by other
swimmers. No one noticed the dog , himself
, had
become exhausted, and his heavy coat, saturated
with water....pulled
him underneath the surface.
The three swimmers were rescued, but Maui drowned
