Tears Of A Child Star:

Nick giving his "angelic" look

A biography of Nick Carter's life

written by MARIAH'S XTACY

Nicholas Gene (i don't know i've seen it written GENE everywhere, but he wrote GEAN once so i'm not sure about the spelling) Carter was born January 28, 1980 in a small Western New York suburb by the name of Jamestown.

Baby Nicky

The hospital where little Nicky took his first breaths was the same as legendary actress/comedienne, Lucille Ball. Perhaps this was somebody?s way of predicting Nick?s future: to become a household name and an icon of pop culture to be REMEMBERED FOREVER. Well, we can only hope.

Nick?s dad, Robert Carter, who had been married before and had one daughter named Ginger (she?s the one who?s responsible for Nick?s ever-changing hairstyles). In the little town of Jamestown, New York, Robert Carter, his father and his second wife, Jane Carter owned a small restaurant called ?The Yankee Rebel?, which at night was used as a mini night club because it was one of the few places in rural New York with a small dance floor.

While Robert and Jane were busy running the restaurant, Nick would often be left alone, unattended wondering around the club. It was during this time that young Kaos showed his love for two things that would later become trademarks of his personality.

One night, Robert observed a crowd of teens forming a circle in the middle of the dance floor. Fearing a fight, Rob immediately broke apart the crowd, discovering in the center of the circle a two year-old Nick in his white diaper dancing and clapping as the club?s customers watched in amazement.

Another night, around closing time, Jane went looking around the restaurant, searching for her young son. Not finding him in the kitchen or on the dance floor (his usual ?hangouts?) Jane and Robert started to panic. Shortly after, a small boy with a slightly large head (where he earned the nickname Charlie Brown) was found standing on a chair desperately trying to play an arcade version of the video-game Pac Man.

While Nick?s parents took these incidents as slight clues about Nick?s personality, NO ONE COULD HAVE GUESSED THE FUTURE OF THE LITTLE BLOND-HAIRED KID FROM JAMESTOWN.

1982 would prove to be a very important year for Nick Carter. At the still tender age of 2, Nick was joined by an unbelievably adorable sister, Bobbi Jean (BJ). BJ shared the traditional Carter family golden blond hair and WOW is she cute! (trust me I?ve seen pics of her NOW-she?s a model-and HELLO, she?s adorable-in a mature, beautiful way). Unbeknownst to Nick at the time (an even now) 1982 would also be the year that his biggest, most loyal, dedicated and devoted fan would be born. Yes, on October 13, 1982, the boy destined to be known as MARIAH?S XTACY, destined to be Mariah Carey?s husband and destined to be the sixth Backstreet Boy(they just don?t know it yet) made his first appearance the same year as BJ Carter. The world had no idea what it was in for.

When Nick was 4 and BJ 2, the Carters decided to move to Ruskin, Florida where they opened a retirement which would serve as this future MUSICAL GENIOUS?s first forum for preforming vocally. Throughout the early years, Nick preformed for the residents of the Carter?s retirement home and his mother Jane soon realized that young Kaos truly did love to preform. It was while attending Miles Elementary school that Nick?s talents were finally shown to the world. When his grade 4 class teacher explained to Nick that one of the students starring in the school play dropped out, Nick nervously sang for her, not expecting a very good response. ?She asked me to sing for her. I hadn?t really done that much singing before, (trying to sound macho Nick?) so I was pretty shaky (oh please, it must have sounded incredible) but she liked my voice (OBVIOUSLY! She did have a brain didn?t she?) and I got the part.? after his successful performances, Nick later explained that ?It made me think I was capable of preforming and (it) gave me a lot of confidence to do other things.?

It was at this point that Jane Carter realized that her son was serious about singing, so she set out in search of a suitable vocal coach for her son. (HELLO!?!?......vocal coach.........Mariah Carey?s mother........duh!). Instead of hiring Patricia Carey, which would have been the wisest choice, (maybe then Nick would have been singing duets with Mariah Carey now, if Patricia had been his vocal coach). Anyways, Jane hired Marianne Prinkey, who, along with Sandy Karl was one of the trainers for the Swashbucklers (cheerleaders for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers). Marianne couldn?t teach Nick how to sing (probably ?cuz he was a way better singer than her anyways! how do you teach someone who?s the 2nd most talented musician in the world how to sing?) so she taught him how to ?care? for his voice and what were the right vocal warmups as well as how to achieve a powerful ?stage presence? (obviously he mastered that).
Yep, he does have a powerful "stage presence"

Once convinced of Nick?s ?power?, Marianne built Nick (aged 10) into the Swashbucklers? act and he became the main part of the pre-match and half-time shows, singing with the cheerleaders dancing behind him. Once, he was asked to sing the National Anthem on his own in front of a crowd of 55 000 people. Unlike Howie?s ?anthem incident? Nick remembered ALL THE WORDS and astounded the audience.

Nick then went on to win a Florida youth talent show with his impersonation of Elvis Presley?s ?Hound Dog?. Nick joined a traveling dance troupe and recorded a demo tape of songs by his favorite group, ?Journey?. Nick started to attend many auditions and he appeared in commercials for The Florida Money Store, The State Lottery and even some Disney commercials. Unknown to most fans, Nick was actually hired to STAR in a short film and apparently did a brilliant job, The film however was a type of documentary being used at a local University, and was never shown to the general public. Perhaps had it been shown, Nick would have become famous at a much earlier age.

While at his many auditions, Nick would frequently meet up with Howie Dorough (known then as Toni Dennetti) and AJ McLean. In order to warm up for their auditions the three would usually harmonize together, singing songs by (ugh) The New Kids and Boyz II Men.

Nick and Howie

Although the three would be auditioning for the same parts most of the time, and although neither of them were usually chosen. the three formed a friendship, and when AJ was chosen by Lou Pearlman to be a member of a new boy group, he quickly suggested Toni and Nick. After Nick auditioned for Lou, he made such an impression, that Lou knew that Nick had the power to be a star, even at the age of 12. Lou, however did not want to be responsible for finding Nick tutors and taking on the responsibility of a child who was only 12, so he hired another (less talented) boy instead. Luckily, the other boy quit the group after a week and Nick was hired. " He looked and sang like an angel. He was perfect for the job," Lou stated, when asked about Nick's performance.

Nicky decided to turn down a role on The Mickey Mouse club in order to join the group. Nick knew that he would have to leave school, if the group needed to travel, but he was willing to make that sacrifice.

A very sad Nick

While it's easy for us to all assume that Nick's life was always just fine that is completely WRONG. In school Nick was always unhappy and has admitted that he would usually end up coming home and going up to his room to cry (guess he's not as different as we all thought), At school, he was different, so he was hated. He never really got into sports, and was always more interested in drawing and singing than fighting and being an all aroung jerk. The guys at school bullied him, not only because he was not like them, but also out of jealousy that he got to leave school early for auditions and because he had talent that they could/would NEVER have. Suprisingly, the girls hated him too. As Nick has said "The girls all had their little groups. I was never good enough for the pretty or popular ones. Some of the less popular and less beautiful ones were my friends and that's why today, I don't always go for the drop dead beauties, it's the ones with the heart of gold that get me.". It makes you think doesn't it, there may be people in our own schools who are called names and ignored and who end up crying regularly, but those same people may have the potential to be great some day. Just like Nick.

So Nick, joined the group and as they say, the rest is history. But what else is there for us to know? Well, recently, more and more often, Nick has been quoted as saying things like "They think they know me,but they don't " and"Every day, I get a lot of hugs from fans and the guys, but I don't get a proper hug every day, I wish I did!" and " I don't have many friends. I just have these guys." . Things aren't as perfet in Nick's life as we'd all like to think.

The pressure is getting to him. Yes the comment "What guy wouldn't want a bunch of screaming girls after him?" is used by Nick (as well as Howie and AJ) on a regular bases, but it 's also be streesful for him or else he wouldn't make comments like this, "Being on my own, with just the silence of the sea, is such an escape from theconstant screaming of fans on a Backstreet Boys tour. Its something I need to do- just to get away from it all."

It really seems like the boys, especially Nick are getting sick of it. Day after day, the same thing. It's not that they don't appreciate their fans it's just, I think, that they're tired of the hundreds of SUPERFICIAL fans who only care about their looks. They WANT/NEED to be appreciated for who they are and their talent, not for how they look. And until the fans start realising that, things are just going to get worse for Nick as well as the group.

IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT TO HAPPEN???

ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE HIS LIFE HELL???
