Backstreet Boys Tour Secrets

Superstition!

Just before their shows, the boys follow the same ritual time after time: they high-five each other, hug, pray and then hug again. It?s the only superstition that the
group believes in. (That and Howie?s scared tea!)

Filmed on tape.

If you every wonder who the person is walking around the concert stage with a video camera, it?s the member of the team who?s in charge of filming the concert, so
the Boys can make any changes if they have to. A photographer has the same job.

?The Hockey Tour?

Since the second day of the tour, the Boys started calling it ?The Hockey Tour,? not only because all the shows were in hockey arenas, but also because they wore
the jersey of the arena?s team while they sang their last song. (This was the 1997 Canadian tour)

Too Cold To Go Outside!

The Boys were promised a few hours to tour Old Quebec and to do some shopping, but the temperature was 20 degrees Fahrenheit! They were happy enough buying
post cards from the lobby in the hotel!

Nick?s Guardian

Because of his age, during tours Nick has to be accompanied by a member of his family over 21. Usually it?s his dad that has the job, but during this tour, it was
Nick?s Uncle John.

Four Body Guards

Because of the fans who get past security, the Backstreet boys had to hire four bodyguards to protect them. These guards go with them everywhere, to autograph
signings, press meetings and they even stand guard at the Boys? shows.

Nick?s Tuque

Even if you?ve crossed Nick or AJ on the street, you probably wouldn?t have noticed them, because they are almost always wearing a tuque (Kangol brand) pulled
down to their eyes. They also wear baseball caps of the same brand. Brian likes wearing Nick's hats, but Kevin and Howie go without anything on their heads.

Backstage Snacks

The Boys don?t ask for much - just a vegetable platter with dip, some cheese ( maybe for Brian?) , crackers, a dozen apples, a dozen oranges, two dozen lemons,
three cartons of Oasis orange juice and six bottles of water (sometimes Naya, sometimes Cristalline) in a cooler. They also like Coke, Orange and Grape Crush.

Fave Meals

At breakfast, Nick and Brian eat Frosted Flakes and some toast - first with peanut butter, the second with strawberry jam - all with orange juice. AJ usually has the
traditional eggs and bacon breakfast, while Kevin and Howie like pancakes with maple syrup. At lunch, the Boys eat in the cafeteria like everyone else working on
tour.

Nick?s Wondrous Wardrobe

Nick changes clothes two or three times a day. He always has the same look: baggy jeans, a jersey (right now he likes the Buffalo Sabres) and Nike shoes.

A.J.?s Adorable Boxers

The fans who have been to a Backstreet Boys concert have brought home different models of baseball caps, T-shirts and other items, including boxers with the name
Backstreet Boys embroidered on the waist band. A secret: AJ wears these boxers too! (Howie and the other do too sometimes!)

Winter Clothes

Even if the Boys didn?t expect a winter this cold, they were well-prepared to face it. They all had warm ski jackets: Black for Nick, AJ and Kevin ; red, white and
blue for Howie and white and blue (a Tommy Hilfiger) for Brian. But the only boots that they had were the ones that they wear on stage. For a whole Quebec tour
they wore Nikes in the snow!

AJ and the Jelly Beans

In the arenas there were canteens where you could buy all kinds of junk food. AJ stopped at just about all of them. The tour?s whole team was astonished to see that
AJ just couldn?t resist Jelly Beans (his favorites are yellow). He ate a lot of them during the tour.

Backstage Secrets

When the Boys get up on stage, five bottles of water and ten towels are kept backstage. Everytime that they disappear behind the stage to change clothes, they wipe
themselves off fast and drink some water. During each show, each boy looses about 4 1/2 lbs. That?s the reason why they watch what they eat more than most guys
their age.

Water And.....

Because of the immense effort they put into their shows night after night, the Boys are almost always drinking to rehydrate themselves. Lots of water, but the Boys
have their preferences. AJ likes blue Gatorade and lemonade. Howie drinks grape Crush and sometimes even coffee. Nick prefers orange drinks and Coke. As for
Brian and Kevin, they drink a little of everything on hand. The Backstreet Boys never drink alcohol (they don?t smoke either).

A Job Well Done

The Backstreet Boys received a special girl from their record company for a job well done. They were each offered a cellular phone. Now they can call their parents at
home, and even their fans around the world!

On the Subject of Girls...

None of the Boys has a girlfriend, but they hope that the situation will change soon. They like going to the movies, boating, water skiing and having picnics and they
are looking for girls who have the same interests. When they?re at home the Backstreet Boys like going to the beach a lot.
