The next few months were almost the same for Nick, even after the play had finished. Since then, the boys had kept making verbal jokes at Nick, about his singing, and how he was always leaving class. Alot of the time, Nick would go home upset. He had no friends, except for the very few people who would talk to him from time to time. To make matters worse, it wasnt JUST the boys who were making fun of him, popular girls started to join in so that the popular boys would like them.
All of the boys liked Pam, who was the prettiest girl in the class. Nick liked her also. When the rest of the boys found this out, they came up with a plan with Pam, to embarass Nick and make fun of him even more.
Early January, after the kids had returned back from christmas break, Tara, Melissa, and a few others were playing a game of Basketball out on the bball court during lunch hour. Nick was standing along the wall by himself, watching them play.
Tara ran over to Nick, trying to make him come and join.
"come on!! Come play some basketball with us!" Tara said.
"I've never really played before.." Nick said shyly.
"Dont worry! We'll show you how!" Tara said, and then she passed Nick the basketball. Half an hour later, Pam, Melanie and Jessica walked over to the basketball court to carry out their plan.
"Hey Nick" Pam said, making Nick to stop concentrating on the game.
"hey Pam" Nick said.
"We have something to ask you" Pam said. Nick walked over to the girls, while Tara and Melissa stopped the game, and watched.
"A big group of us are going to the movies tonight, getting dropped off there. We were wondering if you wanted to come" Pam said, smiling at the other girls, and then at the group of boys behind them.
"Really?" Nick asked, believing what the girls said.
"really!" Pam said grinning.
"ok!" Nick said, smiling. The girls told him to be there for 7, and then took off back to their group.
The bell rang and the everyone headed back to class.
At around 6:45, Nick sat in his moms car at the movie theatre, waiting for the group to show up. He couldnt believe that the IN crowd wanted to be his friend! And most of all, he couldnt believe his crush asked him to the movies.
Tara and Melissa got out of Melissas parents car, and headed into the mall.
"Mom, I know them.. Im going to head out and talk with them till my friends show up ok?" Nick said.
"I dont know hunny, I think we should wait" Nicks mom said.
"No.. I'll be fine!" Nick said, and then he got out of the car.
Nick caught up with Tara and Melissa.
"What are you two doing here?" Nick asked.
"Going shopping" Tara said. "What are you doing here?"
"Meeting Pam here, to go to a movie" Nick said. Tara looked at Nick, and then didnt say anything.
"Mind if I wait with you guys??" Nick asked.
"sure thing" Tara said, as the three of them sat on the bench across the movies entrance.
A while later, Nick looked at his watch, 7:30. The movie that they were supposed to see had already started, and Pam and her friends havent shown up yet. Tara and Melissa left Nick on the bench while he waited, and went shopping. At around 9:00, Tara and Melissa headed back to the theatre entrance, where Nick was still sitting on the bench.
The movie just ended and people were coming out of the theatre.
"what are you still doing here?" Melissa asked.
"She didnt show up.." Nick said sadly.
Nick stood up with Tara and Melissa, and then suddenly saw Pam come out of the theatre, with Ryan. Ryan and Pam were holding hands.
"Pam! Where were you, Ive been waiting for you to show up" Nick said. Ryan started laughing, and so did Pam.
"You actually believed that I wanted to go with YOU?" Pam said, laughing her head off.
"I wouldnt be caught dead out with you!" Pam said, and then she walked away with Ryan. Nick got really upset and then ran outside to meet his mom, who was coming shortly to pick him up.
Monday morning, the word had gotten around the entire class about how Nick was left waiting at the mall for Pam. Everyone, except for Tara and Melissa, thought it was really funny.
After school, Ryan followed Nick outside, where him and his friends surrounded Nick, and started to shove him around.
"let me go!" Nick shouted, as the boys pushed him around. Ryan gave him one last final push, making Nick trip and fall on the ground.
"Why dont you guys just leave him alone?!?!?" Tara asked.
"Awwww... does someone have a crush on the gayboy?" Ryan asked.
"Shut up!!! Why do you treat him soo badly? He hasnt done ANYTHING to you!" Tara defended Nick.
Tara walked over and helped Nick up. Nick stood up and cleaned himself off.
"We have our eyes on you, girly boy" Ryan said, and then he walked away.
"Thanks.." Nick said, and then he turned around and started to walk home.
"How come your not taking the bus?" Tara asked.
"Id rather walk.." Nick said.
"Well, wait for us!" Tara and Melissa grabbed their stuff and followed Nick.
