LAZINESS
Laziness, or procrastination, is not good. God shows us that putting things off because we are too lazy to do it is wrong. Do you sleep in a lot? Well, sleeping isn’t bad, but it can be when you sleep too much! I hope that these verses can help you understand how God feels about these topic…
Proverbs 6:6-11 is: 6 You lazy people can learn by watching an anthill. 7 Ants don’t have leaders, 8 but they store up food during harvest season. 9 How long will you lie there doing nothing at all? When are you going to get up and stop sleeping? 10 Sleep a little. Doze a little. Fold your hands and twiddle your thumbs. 11 Suddenly, everything is gone, as though it had been taken by an armed robber.
Proverbs 10:4&5 is: 4 Laziness leads to poverty; hard work makes you rich. 5 At harvest season it’s smart to work hard, but stupid to sleep. (My Thought: God much more values hard work.)
Proverbs 26:16 is: A lazy person says,”I am smarter than everyone else.”
Jonah 1:2&3 is: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” 3 But Jonah ran away from the Lord… (My Thought: Jonah is a good example of not doing something. He tried to run from the Lord, but he couldn’t. He ended up going to Nineveh anyway… In most cases, we put things off in life, but have to do it later anyway. And when we do the things that we should have done earlier, we miss out on the full benefit of doing it.)
Here are two awesome stories, Jesus told…
Matthew 25:1-13 is: 1 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise, however took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. 6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ 7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ 9 “ ‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. 11 “Later the others also came . ‘Sir! Sir!’ they said, ‘Open the door for us!’ 12 “But he replied, ‘ I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’ ” 13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”
Matthew 25:14-30 is: 14 The kingdom is also like what happened when a man went away and put his three servants in charge of all he owned. 15 The man knew what each servant could do. So he handed five thousand coins to the first servant, two thousand to the second, and one thousand to the third. Then he left the country. 16 As soon as the man had gone, the servant with the five thousand coins used them to earn five thousand more. 17 The servant who had two thousand coins did the same with his money and earned two thousand more. 18 But the servant with one thousand coins dug a hole and hid his master’s money in the ground. 19 Some time later the master of those servants returned. He called them in and asked what they had done with his money. 20 The servant who had been given five thousand coins brought them in with the five thousand that he had earned. He said, “Sir, you gave me five thousand coins, and I have earned five thousand more.” 21 “Wonderful!” his master replied. “You are a good and faithful servant. I left you in charge of only a little, but now I will put you in charge of much more. Come and share in my happiness.” 22 Next, the servant who had been given two thousand coins came in and said, “Sir, you gave me two thousand coins, and I have earned two thousand more. 23 “Wonderful!” his master replied. “You are a good and faithful servant. I left you in charge of only a little, but now I will put you in charge of much more. Come and share in my happiness.” 24 The servant who had been given one thousand coins then came in and said, “Sir, I know that you are hard to get along with. You harvest what you don’t plant and gather crops where you haven’t scattered seed. 25 I was frightened and went out and hid your money in the ground. Here is every single coin!” 26 The master of the servant told him, “You are lazy and good-for-nothing! You know that I harvest what I don’t plant and gather crops where I haven’t scattered seed. 27 You could have at least put my money in the bank, so that I could have earned interest on it.” 28 Then the master said, “Now your money will be taken away and given to the servant with ten thousand coins! 29 Everyone who has something will be given more, and they will have more than enough. But everything will be taken from those who don’t have anything. 30 You are a worthless servant, and you will be thrown out into the dark where people will cry and grit their teeth in pain.”
Are these not awesome stories of people who are lazy, and the consequences for their laziness. In these two stories the punishment for laziness, is eternal death… hell. Although we may not be punished this severely, we will still be punished. God doesn’t want us to be lazy. He gave us life, and He wants us to live for a purpose! He wants us to make good use of our time. He doesn’t want you to waste the precious time He has blessed you with. We are blessed to live on earth today. If you are lazy, or sleep more than you should, why not pray about it. Ask God for forgiveness. Ask Him to help you in that area. He will.
Ephesians 5:15-17 is: 15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. (My Thought: I love this verse! It’s self-explanatory.)
Live wisely, and use your time in a way that glorifies the Lord. Don’t waste it away by being lazy. I love seeing the sun rise and fall. It is one of the most beautiful things in life! (Ecclesiastes 11:7 Nothing on earth is more beautiful than the morning sun.) Wow! I believe God had a lot of fun making the sun, clouds, stars, and also us! Why not get up early tomorrow morning, and watch the most beautiful thing on earth rise?
