4 . 2 9 . 0 3 ack. ack. ack.
4 . 2 7 . 0 3 Almost down to the 2 week mark, and things are really busy. Looks like we got the ORL presentation pushed back about a week which is good on one hand, but honestly I'm pretty sick of working on it so much this semester I just want it to be pau already. Otherwise its crunch time on another project, lets see what I can whip out under pressure. As it turns out it'll be an unofficial 48 hour project after all. ack. will see. Finally got my housing and flight stuffs taken care of for DC, I actually ended up in pretty good shape. a decent part of town, metro accessible, and not out of my budget. Looking forward to the new scenery an new city, one with a train system. So I'm thinking about storage options now. Probably shouldn't have to worry too much about it being that the Merit has a basement, but you never know. Thinking Khamphian might want to borrow my TV for the summer. Maybe my books too. I should hear from the Law school this upcoming week now. Would be nice to get an idea where I'll be in 2 years, let alone what classes I'll be taking in the upcoming fall. Lately I've been thinking about going to UH now regardless. for an array of reasons really, no one in particular. Plus the kala is a little on the short side these days. 4 . 2 2 . 0 3 Under one month left and things are winding up and down. One of my classes will be done in about a week, and two more in about two weeks. Then its stats to worry about before I ship off to DC. Then a whole other adventure begins. Still looking for places for the Summer, if anyone is reading this I could use some tips on housing in the DC area. GAO isn't paying that much, but I'd be willing to drop a little extra for a room in a decent part of town close to the metro. kaulapi@yahoo.com Been distracted from the war, or not the occupation. The media hounds are all over the stories of anarchy and post-war Iraqi governments, the hunt for WMD, conspiracy theories and talks of a new American empire. Attended two interesting lectures last week, one on the current situation in North Korea, where there was a pretty good showing of undergrads, professors, graduate students, and staff. Brought up several good points about the political climate in which we now live in, and mainly that the current policies that are being considered are so bizarre that some countries may be rethinking their own agendas being that they never thought America would respond in the way that they have. The other event was a video showing about the current situation in Laos concerning the remnants of the Secret Hmong Army that the US left after the Vietnam War. Apparently the conflict is still continuing now with chemical weapons from North Korea. Katie brought up a good point that the institute that funded the film had some questionable roots. Otherwise, its back to work for me. This data set is actually pretty neat. Maybe there is a little bit of a policy analysist in me afterall. 4 . 1 8 . 0 3 Friday, and I'm reeling with work. need to find a place to stay for the summer, work on some of my final projects, complete some sections of final drafts, review some Econometrics, do laundry, clean house, cook rice, etc. Spring semesters are always hectic at the end. Also running out of kala. Thinking I'll probably need to just sign up for a place in DC already, time is running short and I need to focus on some other more pressing things. This semester is going by pretty fast. Been hanging out in the AASP office quite a bit lately, its a good location to get some work done between classes, as well as have a deep chat with Katie. I've gotten to know her a better over the year, amazed by the amount of knowledge that she has about the world and touched by her strength in spirit. spent some time bonding with Khamphian last night, learned some new words and stories. Quite often I realize that there is a whole other area of interest that is burning inside me that I could dedicate an entirely seperate academic career to. Maybe in another lifetime. then again, maybe theres still room for it. No strange dreams lately, knock on wood. well no really bad ones at least. Just kind of strange. Sen to Chihiro Kamikakushi (sp?) came out earlier this week, will need to stop by the store to see if they have any more in stock. They sold out pretty quickly. Can't wait to see the Japanese version. Still probably the best movie I've seen all year. 4 . 1 5 . 0 3 Ides of April and about a month to go, starting to hit crunch time for several projects. Never seems like there is enough time in the semester to finish all of this with some degree of sanity. Spring semesters seem to be my bane. Had a couple days now of 80 degree weather and man is it distracting. Out on the terrace right now making good this wireless connection. the dang bugs are out too. Official part of the war is now officially pau according to the government officials, and now the occupation of Iraq begins. If you ask me things don't look too cheery, it doesn't take much to read between the media reports to see that American's don't understand middle-east politics. I'm just hoping that things don't get too ugly over there. More and more readings have been surfacing about what appears to be the start of an American empire. I hope I'm wrong. on a side note I'll be in DC this summer, when is depending on my housing situation. rents are pretty dang expensive in the area, and while the internship is paid, it isn't exactly GS-13 or anything. Looking forward to the experience no doubt, funny though I never really envisioned myself in DC. Meanwhile I'm awaiting word from the Law school, wondering what kind of classes I'll be taking in the fall, Benefit-Cost Analysis? or Torts? Either way sounds pretty good to me. 4 . 5 . 0 3 So April is here and we just had a snowstorm. more like an ice storm actually, I got caught in it driving back from Wausau for another one of our community meetings for the Health Policy class. Got to use an UW fleet van for the trip, pretty fun playing with the cruise control option. A little surprised I survived all the way through this week, it was pretty brutal in terms of work - I guess maybe having a houseguest for the entire week is something that I can't deal with as much as I had previously thought. I'm not complaining by any means. Wausau trip was good, got to sit in on a medical interpretation seminar, I've been realizing that there is quite a bit of health care terminology that I still retain from all those years pre-med and working in hospital settings. Got to meet a bunch of actual translators from the wausau hospitals, probably be requesting their attendence at the community meeting in May. Still not sure where I'll be for the summer, at the moment I'm anticipating spending about a month home, and then off to someplace - hopefully D.C., although I will have to see how things turn out with the internship applications. For all I know I might be in Manilla. or Hawaii. Will be hearing from the GAO sometime next week. need to find an assistantship for next year as well. |
