its 7:04 in the pm and i'm sitting out the heatwave indoors, well at least the start of it anyway. Think its supposed to be 95 degrees at 1:00am tonight. crazy. reminds me of the summer i spent in Madison a while back, only I didn't have the blessings of air conditioning then.

work is fine, I'll be cautious to say that its a little slow now - I'm not complaining, but I've been easily distracted lately. Have a bunch of write ups to do and more reading. just ask anyone I've been emailing articles and what not. Definitely becoming more educated on the world politics and the connections to DC. This is a real lively towne if you're into politics. maybe i need to work on my networking skills a bit more. problem is that I've been running low on BS.

maybe I'll do some homework this weekend since I'm flexing - also since is so friggin hot.

so the RIAA ppl are at it again, this time deciding to crack down on the little guys. Things like this makes me wonder why I want to go to Law school. you think that there are more rampant injustices going on in the world aside from some CEO's million dollar salary. The RIAA also claims that the artists are being squeezed, but everyone knows that they get paid shit from the recording companies.

dang, I sound like somebody that used to irritate me with all this pop-music bashing and underground shit-talk. But I do agree in part, I'm sure that the recent decline in CD sales is somewhat related to the overall lack of quality in pop music nowadays. it pretty much sucks. Thats what we get for letting the media deregulate to the point of uniform crap and crap and more crap. plus with the bad economy and paranoia over terrorism and freedom fries who the hell wants to go spend money on a CD?

according to one source, more people are online downloading songs than voted for Bush this past election. I don't quite know what to say to that statistic.

anyway, I'll end this entry on a lighter note.

6:11 a little less than one week later. I just filled out an membership form for the GAO health and wellness facility in the basement, pretty neat perk for the summer. maybe I'll actually have the motivation to get off my okole and get into some shape.

spent my flex day going to the info session for GULC, it was informational and inspiring, will have to see how competitive my application will be come Fall. Being that I plan to be debt-free come May 2004 maybe I'll make that jump from state to private. At this point I'm leaning west, maybe all the way west. althoguh it might be worth trying my hand out at the policy thing for a couple years at least until all the pre-meds quit applying to Law school. heh.

Thinking about taking a language refresher course at www.usda.gov they have classes on one of the metro plazas, about a 5 minute commute. The question is of course if it'll be worth the effort, and whether I should take it for credit or audit. I'm thinking it'll be good training to see if I can handle working full time and going school.

Hit the Smithsonian American History building this past weekend, need to head back over there later this week. Lots to see/do/read. Probably try and go to the Sackler gallery as well if time permits. DC is a very busy city no doubt.

6:11 in the building and I'm still here. lets see if I can start every entry this month with the same generic line. Week 4 of the internship is almost pau, so far so good. I'm liking DC alright afterall, a little change of pace bit by bit but I guess I could get used to the grind of things.

Went to a seminar lecture/video screening of a documentary put on by the Asia Society of DC, a non-profit org based south of Dupont. The video was on human trafficking of minority Southeast Asian women into the Thai sex industry. Mostly hill tribes of Ahka, Hmong, Burmese. When I got there I realized that they required reservations for seats. Kind of a stuffy reception really, and it cost a couple bucks. The video and speaker was very good though, and I got to drink some wine after.

I got sent up to the hill at the end of last week to cover a hearing on SARS and Aircraft cabin environments, very interesting although it was kind of long. It was very official feeling and I felt underdressed without a tie. not to mention a coat. speaking of which its getting pretty humid and hot. Thank god I live close to the metro.

Will be tagging along for a briefing for work tomorrow, another Federal agency to check out and observe. And then I get to flex time on Friday, one of the perks of working for at the federal level I hear. Not sure what I'll be doing though, part of me wants to catch up on some sleep, although I should be more ambitious and make an investment for Future.

ack, OK OK I'll go. maybe check out the rotunda while I'm in the area as well.

6:15 at the GAO building and I'm still here. No worries, I officially stopped working a little while ago, and am taking some time to check on some prices for flights home and what not.

Overall I'm adjusting to DC well, gotten used to the surroundings and am navigating the metro pretty easily. settled into my apartment and found my goya and spam. Eating out is so expensive in the city so I've decided to try and cook as much as possible this summer.

It is worth noting that this journal is now in its 5th year in existance, which is pretty impressive for me being that I can never keep a regular hard copy journal longer than a couple months.

Went to the monuements and memorials on the mall this past weekend, saw the white house, captiol, Washington, Lincoln memorials along with the Vietnam, Korean, and Nisei before catching the metro back from Union station. Reflections on the steps by Abe that I'm pretty far away from home, the idea that this district holds a concentration of influence that governs over a chain of islands 10,000 miles away is a statement of power and symbolism.

I couldn't help but think of the queen on the floor of congress more than 100 years ago.
