Home now, but sick as a dog. Caught a nasty bout of the flu after being back for about 48 hours. Honestly haven't felt this sick since I came home from Japan a couple years ago puking my brains out on the plane. Trying to piece together where I could have gotten it from, thinking it might've been the lady sitting across the aisle from me on my flight from San Fran to Honolulu, coughing up a lung the whole way. Then again it could have been a number of other sources, the metro in DC, the airport, heck, maybe even the beach or something. Had a 103 fever the other day, with chills and strange hazy dreams, my body was aching all over and I could barely walk.

Couldn't help but notice that from my experiences in Japan, people who are sick wear surgical masks over their faces out of courtesy to other people, not to spread their germs from the misdirected sneeze or cough. This would especially be important in a closed environment such as an airplane cabin, especially over a transpacific flight of about 5-6 hours.

My dad commented that whatever it was that I have must've been pretty bad, citing my high tolerance for physical pain. Apparently there is a nasty strain of influenza going around in Hawaii this year, lots of people getting sick. Brings to mind some of the CDC's literature on public health tips, about lowering the rates of infectious diseases by getting people to just wash their damn hands.

Speaking of which, I have no clue why they don't have any soap in the public restrooms in Japan.

Going home for a week, should be fun. I think I'm due for a real vacation, its been a busy past 2 months. Haven't really planned out my week very much, but I think my folks want to go sing karaoke at least one night. should be fun.

Patriots win another superbowl this past weekend, their third in four years, by a margin of three points once again. This time it didn't come down to a last minute field goal though, but it was still a very tight game. I have to say that I like their style of play, you get a sense of the team unity and selfless work ethic that is mentioned in a lot of commentary, the fact that they have a lot of free agents, bench players that rise to the challenge following injury to the starters. Low key in general, but they live and die as a team.

Feb, and its getting warmer in DC. after a cold spell for a week or so that brought temps down into the teens, it was 50 today. Spent the afternoon out in Northern VA, looking around at some of the metro stops. I think I found a pake solution for my buying suit, at least for the time being, among other things.

Will be going home for about a week, kind of strange going home mid season, after being a student for so long and gotten used to the Xmas and summer trips home. My brother and his wife will be in town as well, it'll be a mini reunion for my folks more or less. First time all of us at home for a while, really now that I think about it.

Spoke with an ex recently, kind of nostalgic as to how much people can change over the years. I always assume that all of them are doing well, happy, most likely with somebody else. I guess it might be because when I say goodbye to them, in some ways I think its the end of what used to be, for the most part. Can't help but wonder sometimes how different my life experience might have been given some different choices here and then. Some say that one's life is based on the collective of the people they meet throughout the course of a lifetime. Something that I can't say I disagree with.
