Sketch of Patrick Stewart

Believe it or not this was my first sketch. Okay, I lied; technically it was my second sketch. My first sketch is one from the same photograph that I gave to my friend Trudy who is a Patrick Stewart fan. She claims the first one is better. While I was doing some cartooning I realized that I had good control over continuous tones so I figured, "Yeah, why not try a pencil sketch?" Why Patrick Stewart? I hate to admit it, but it was due to his lack of hair. I looked at hair, and thought that it seemed kind of tough to do so I punted it for my first sketch. Actually, there were a number of things that I did wrong on this sketch. Instead of drawing shapes first and slowly adding more detail, I started with sections (eyes and nose) first and then surrounding areas. I think despite that it turned out pretty good. I'll have to agree with Trudy though, the one that she has is probably better.
